If your preschool aged daughter is celebrating a birthday this winter, you may want to consider throwing her a Madeline themed party. You could base it on Ludwig Bemelmans’ books, “Madeline’s Christmas” and “Madeline’s Winter Vacation.” If you do decide to go with a Madeline themed birthday party, I happen to have a few party favor suggestions that I’d like to share. Here they are:
In the children’s book, “Madeline’s Winter Vacation”, she heads to the Alps with Miss Clavel and her friends. While there, the ladies experience an avalanche and talk about the Abominable Snowman. With that in mind, you may want to use snowman craft kits as party favors. There are a wide variety of snowman craft kits available through party supply shops for less than $10 each. One of my favorite is the Color Your Own Snowman Mitten Photo Frame Ornament. The frame is made of unfinished wood and sells for $4 through Oriental Trading.
Snowman School Supplies
Since Madeline and her friends attend a boarding school, winter themed school supplies would also make great party favors. Options include stackable snowman markers, snowman memo pads, snowman pencils and snowman bookmarks. In my experience, winter themed school supplies are available through most party supply and scholastic supply shops for less than $5 a pack.
Madeline Winter Themed Edibles
In the book, “Madeline’s Christmas”, Madeline and her friends meet a magician who helps them take a magic carpet ride home for the holidays. As such, edible magic carpets would make wonderful party favors. The Kraft Foods website has a stellar magic carpet recipe that you may want to consider using. The magic carpets are made from JELL-O Gelatin. If you don’t want to go with gelatin favors, there are other options. You could invest in a few cookie cutters and candy molds that would fit in with the theme. Molds that would fit in with the theme include an Abominable Snowman foot, a magic carpet riding genie and the Eiffel Tower. Of course you could also hand out bags of Madeleine cookies or miniature versions of Madeline sculpted out of marzipan or gum paste.
Magic Wands and Passports
Since Madeline and her friends traveled home for Christmas on magic carpets, you might also want to hand out magic wands and faux passports. That way the party guests can pretend that they too are taking a magic carpet ride home. Magic wands and faux passports depicting the Eiffel Tower are typically available for purchase through party supply shops for less than $9 a dozen.
