Maybelline New York’s Super Stay 10 Stain Gloss

by pop tug

I, as a woman, am a sucker for all things cosmetic. I love my make up, my perfumes, and I have enough lotions and creams to keep a football team smooth and scented for a year. Although my collection is enviable my travel make up bag only has my must have’s based on their performance. I buy a variety of make up for home wear and for taking pictures to post on my favorite social networks, but it’s what I put in my make up bag that I have tested and found to be tried and true quality.

I think the two most important things a woman should carry are mascara and lipstick, because, in my opinion, there are no two more important features on a woman’s face than her lips and her eyes. My mascaras have to be complimentary, water proof and long lasting, and with the make up revolution in lipsticks I can now say the same for my lip wear. Out with the lipsticks that you have to reapply twenty times and that leaves evidence of your kisses on your squeeze’s face. I have a higher standard of what long lasting means to me than when I was in high school.

On my last trip to Walgreen’s my cosmetic consultant referred me to a sale they were having on Maybelline products. She knows me well, and had me sold when she mentioned that she also had coupons that would lessen the price even more. I chose the Super Stain 10 Stain Gloss. I came home and opened it right away. The container is very pretty having a clear colored lid that references the color of the stain gloss you’ve chosen and a body similar to a mascara’s bottle.

I bought a beautiful color, Berry Heavenly, and although the applicator tip was unusual, it applied on fairly evenly. I was very happy with the brilliance and richness of the color. It brightened my face and warmed the color of my cheeks. It was not sticky like my must have long lasting lipstick in my make up bag or greasy like you find with many lip glosses. The texture was smooth and wet. It took a little longer than I hoped to dry, but after a couple of minutes when it did dry it didn’t restrict my lips. It was nice to buy a long lasting lip color that didn’t require a follow up application of a balm. One step and you were ready to go.

Although the texture was more pleasing than the two step long lasting lipsticks the staying power just wasn’t there for me. I was able to kiss my hand eight times and have pigment show on my skin, and afterwards the shine that you’d expect from a lip gloss was lack luster. The color was faded, although still a pleasing color, but didn’t have the same wow factor as some of it’s competitors lasting power. It wasn’t able to stand up to eating or drinking either, and after a small snack and a drink a reapplication was needed. All of this occurred in less than three hours.

When comparing this product to long lasting lipsticks I would say it doesn’t hold up against the competition, but if I was making a comparison against a standard lip gloss I would definitely be in favor of Super Stay 10 Stain Gloss. Because of my attention to cost I would have to suggest that the retail cost of around $10.00 is a little too much for it’s effectiveness, but I purchased mine on sale and saved enough (60%) to have not returned this item to the store.

If you are looking for a lip color that is going to last all day, through meetings, meals, making out or whatever is on your agenda, you may want to pass on this product. If you are looking for a new innovation in lip gloss that has beautiful color and a lot more lasting power than standard glosses but will require you to carry it along with you for touch ups, then I say buy it, but check with your beauty adviser at your drug store about sales and coupons that may be available.
