The state of the environment is becoming a more pressing issue every day. Many of us also have health concerns or long to lose a few pounds. What if I told you there’s a simple way to address both problems and save money while doing it?
It’s called Meatless Monday- a revolution that has been sweeping the country where people have declared the first day of the week vegetarian. It’s a small step but the impact can be significant for you and our planet. The idea is becoming so popular that famous chefs around the country are participating along with TV and film celebrities.

Don’t get me wrong- I love meat, but I care enough about Mother Nature and my health to give it up for one day. Plus, with all the great vegetarian recipes available there’s no need to give up flavor! And I love the idea of being a part of something on a large scale. If going meat-free one day a week means I can shrink my carbon footprint- I’m all for it!
Cutting out meat just one day a week can substantially improve the health of the environment. It reduces the amount of water needed to meet the high demand for overwhelming livestock numbers. Farm animals are a huge contributor to climate change because of the methane gas they release into the atmosphere. Choosing a meat-free alternative lightens the constant pressure on farmers to supply our ever-growing meat demand.
Eating less meat is also great for your health. Reducing the amount of animal trans fats you consume is great for your figure and can help you lead a more active lifestyle. Not only that, choosing vegetarian recipes encourages you to eat more produce and heart-healthy grains. Planning meat alternatives doesn’t have to be complicated either. I usually just make my favorite meals without the meat: tacos, pizza, pasta, stir fry, soups, salads, mac & cheese, etc.
Embracing Meatless Monday is an excellent way to connect as a family, couple, or group of friends. Carry on the “team” feelings from the weekend and get creative in the kitchen. Take this opportunity to educate your family about healthy meals and being environmentally conscious.
