The latest episode of “Modern Family” focused on another Halloween. Holiday episodes are always fun on this show, and this one was no exception. The main story in the episode involved Claire being forced to give up her spooky décor, something that threatens her Halloween spirit. While that is going on, Gloria’s temper is flaring, and Mitchell faces big questions from Lily. Those stories made up for another solid Halloween edition of this hit series. Here is a recap of the latest episode, “Open House of Horrors.”
Tough Halloween for the Dunphy family
The Dunphy family has always loved Halloween, but things are different this year. The neighbors have filed a petition that says that Claire has gone too far, which was prompted from an incident in which an old man suffered a heart attack during one of her scary displays. As a result, all of the decorations have been toned down. Phil says it’s no big deal, since Claire isn’t that scary to begin with. Meanwhile, he is celebrating the holiday by having an open house for work. This involves showing bored trick-or-treaters around the house. Back at the Dunphy house, Claire is upset that people are still afraid of their house despite the decoration changes. Since she is bored, she decides to try and scare Phil while he is at the open house. Her attempts to scare don’t fool him at first, and Phil soon has to show the house to another couple. He’s paranoid that Claire will try something, but she allows him to do his job. When he’s done, he becomes increasingly scared about things going on in the house. It turns out that Claire was responsible, and she eventually gets a good scare out of her husband.
Lily has big questions
Cam and Mitchell are preparing for a big costume party, but they are sidetracked when Lily asks questions about her real mom. Mitchell had previously told her that her mom was a princess, which has caused Lily to be obsessed with princesses. He is too nervous to tell Cam what he did, but he is in lucky because Cam has other things on his mind. He’s upset that he isn’t able to show off his lost weight because of his bull costume. Meanwhile, Lily is increasingly agitated when she sees a woman dressed as a princess that isn’t her mom. Eventually, Cam finds out what Mitchell did. He’s not overly angry, and the two agree to finally talk about Lily’s mom with her. They explain that her mom loved her, but wasn’t able to take care of her. Lily understands, and everyone is happy again.
Gloria’s hot temper
As Jay and Gloria prepare for the costume party, Gloria’s temper is boiling over. She’s angry at Manny’s principal for yelling at him, and she steals the candy from a couple of older trick-or-treaters. Manny points out that she has become a “hothead,” but Gloria simply says that she is Colombian. While they are at the party, Gloria begins to think that the baby is angry inside. Jay reassures her, and says that she will be a great mom all over again. Meanwhile, Gloria boosts Jay’s confidence as well. He has been feeling sensitive about getting older, but is flattered when the princess that Lily was speaking with earlier starts flirting with him. Gloria decides to give him his moment by not telling him that the princess is really a man.
