October was an extremely busy month at Neopets; in addition to the usual dailies (things that you can once or multiple times a day to earn NP or free items) and the Half Price Day there were a lot of great things revolving around Halloween. After the abysmal Faerie Festival, or lack of one, TNT really needed to boost moral. The month opened on the tail end of the Autumn Scores Galore that allowed you to send in your score five times instead of three.
One of the biggest bomb drops of the month was the announcement that the Battledome would be closing down permanently. They will be introducing a new version of it but no one is sure how that is going to effect current stats, weapons, abilities and other aspects of it. You can sign up for the Beta of the “new” Battledome but you can only select one pet. One of the up sides of the announcement is the mention of ‘prizes’. The direct quote is, “Any prizes you earn during the beta are yours to keep!” If you visit the Battledome page now you get a message that they are working on the Beta for the new version. The Battledome went in to Beta testing with select members being allowed access; with that came prizes like Codestones and weapons that were given out to those who participated.
NC Mall: In addition to the Halloween shop opening, the “Mystery Asylum Mystery Capsule” made it’s debut. Reasonably priced at 150NC it is a must have for spooky or haunted gallery owners. The “Dapper Deathly Union Costume Pack” was also added to the mall for 450NC. Some of the items added on the fly include Vampires Bane Garland, Singing Jack-O-Lanterns Garland, Petpet Cemetery Background, Undead Princess Dress, Evil Fuzzles Shower, Halloween Nesting Dolls, Spooky Neovian Manor Background, Haunted Faire Background.
Another seasonal Mystery Capsule dropped at the mall, just in time for Halloween too! The “Pumpkin Gift Box Mystery Capsule” was only on sale until October 31 and was a great looking item. When opened you it you got a random item plus the chance to get a special mystery capsule only item. It sold for 200NC and was a popular item in the mall. The Looking Sharp Mystery Capsule was later added for the price of 150NC. The most current “Mysterious Morphing Experiment” is the MME13-S1: Magical Shrunken Heads but at 600NC that’s a lot to drop on one single item even if you have the chance to end up with something that is super rare.
One of the most talked about NC Mall adds for the month was the “Baby Zomutt Costume Pack”; this sold for 400NC and included the Baby Zomutt Costume, Baby Zomutt Costume Hat, Baby Zomutt Costume Face Paint and the Baby Zomutt Contacts. It was a limited edition item only on sale until November 8. A lot of people assumed that this was something that was wearable by any Neopet but it can only be equipped to those that have been painted Baby. This is not the same as the “Baby Mystery Capsule” (150NC).
The “Phantastic Finds Spooky Magnifying Glass” promo went live and offered NC Mall shoppers the chance to score items using the various magnifying glass packs. These were comparable to the Trick-Or-Treat Bags from other years but were a straight purchase from the mall. The packs included: Phantastic Finds Spooky Magnifying Glass 1 Pack: 150NC, Phantastic Finds Spooky Magnifying Glass 5 Pack: 500NC, Phantastic Finds Spooky Magnifying Glass 10 Pack: 900NC and the largest Phantastic Finds Spooky Magnifying Glass 20 Pack for 1,500NC. It’s another limited edition purchase that was only available until Halloween.
Trivia Prizes: October 4 – Giant Grarrl Burger, October 10 – Plushie Eyrie Plushie. October 13 – Baby Bori Plushie, October 16 – Jetsam Fish Toss, October 26 – Shadow Korbat Plushie, October 31 – Ectoplasm Nachos.
The Haunted Faire was brought back again with the same type of design; I was really hoping that there would be more to it than what TNT came up with but it seems like more and more of the promotions for seasonal events are revolving around purchasing things from the NC Mall. The Masks of Dread event started on October 25 which followed almost the same format as the previous year. The prizes were decent and none of the quests were all that hard but the NC item available for additional quests was priced at 500NC. Even though you could get a couple exclusive items from it, a lot of people complained about it. Prizes for the Masks of Dread included: Commemorative Defenders Stamp #1, Blueberry Candy Gavel, Orig Plushie (special), Moltaran Charm (special, wearable), Fire Candyfloss, Interior Decorating With Rocks And Cogs, Haunted Coffee, Vanilla Blumaroo Biscuit, Ice Milk Black Tea, Blurtle Adventure, Pirate Hat Toffees, Farnswap, Tarlas Staff, Snow Mote, Icy Mint Jelly Beans.
The final event of the Haunted Faire handed out the goodie bags as well as Spooky Forest Path Background and Haunted Wood Foreground as well as a bonus prize (mine was the already low selling Ghost Burger). The masks that were handed out with the five quests include: Stone Warrior Mask, Toothy Grin Mask, Spiky Glowing Mask, Floral Bouquet Mask and the Theatrical Split Mask. The final mask released was the Menacing Tribal Mask. The NC Mall gave one treat bag, the Ghost Melton Goodie Bag. The other bags that were released include: Wheel of Misfortune Trick-or-Treat Bag, Haunted Weaponry Trick-or-Treat Bag, Prigpants Trick-or-Treat Bag, Magax Trick-or-Treat Bag and the Castle Nox Trick-or-Treat Bag.
Everyone waited patiently for a Halloween Key Quest promotion; it was odd that it didn’t start in the middle of the month and it was a complete let down that the only Halloween items were in the NC Mall or from the Haunted Faire.
One of the last things that happened at the site was the announcement that Habitarium would be down for maintenance from 2 am to 4 am Neopian Standard Time (west coast time) from now on. When people saw the announcement in the news they thought it was a joke for Halloween. Some say this was done to prevent people from running the Habitarium over night (which could lead to being locked out if your screen is full of gems); that’s not a concern to me because I never leave it running when I am not online.
