Phillip Phillips came to fame after winning the 11th season of the wildly popular singing competition, “American Idol,” and certainly has some serious staying power. The 22 year old singer, songwriter and musician released his debut album titled “The World from the Side of the Moon,” on November 19, 2012, and as someone who has listened to the album from start to finish, I can definitely vouch that it is a solid debut. Here is a look at five of the best songs by Phillip Phillips yet, and see why this “American Idol” alum isn’t about to fade into the crowd just yet.
“Home”
The first original song I ever heard by Phillip Phillips was “Home.” He sung this at the “American Idol” finale in which he was deemed the winner. “Home” has a a great beat, solid vocals, and some seriously relevant lyrics. From first listen, this song had me hooked. Phillip Phillips has a great sound that is often likened to that of Mumford and Sons’. As a tremendous fan of the British folk quartet, I can definitely vouch that his music is along the same vein.
“Gone Gone Gone”
Another great song by Phillip Phillips is “Gone Gone Gone.” This song is my personal favorite from his collection. “Gone Gone Gone” has an amazing beat, completely relatable lyrics, and a sound that keeps me coming back for more. My favorite part of the song has to be when the tempo picks up and Phillips sings “Like a drum, baby, don’t stop beating.” This is a great song that definitely deserves more exposure.
“Man on the Moon”
“Man on the Moon” is another solid track by Phillip Phillips. This song has a raw edge to it, and when combined with Phillips’ amazing vocals and lyrics, makes this song irresistible. I cannot listen to this song without tapping my foot along to the music. “Man on the Moon” will be rotating on my iPod for quite some time to come.
“Wanted Is Love”
Another great song from this debut album is “Wanted is Love.” The intensity and emotion injected into this song is nothing short of breath taking, and the beautiful instrumental accompaniment make this song one of Phillip Phillips’ best yet.
“Hold On”
Last, but definitely not least, “Hold On” is a great song from Phillip Phillips’ debut album. This song has an amazing vibe with warm, earthy tones, beautiful lyrics, solid vocals, and an overall sound that I simply cannot resist.
