The fashion industry is constantly evolving in regards to the whims of women around the world. We are constantly trying to “keep up” with “Hollywood Royalty,” who are strutting down the boulevard trying to one-up our fellow women, donning the brightest colors or the flashiest accessories.
What we often forget? The true beauty in fashion should reflect the expression of our unique personalities. We should be celebrating our style differences and applauding our sisters who are bold enough to combine classic looks with their own unique flavor.
Jackie Christie, star of VH1’s “Basketball Wives LA,” has demonstrated her creativity, passion for fashion, and unique style with the launch of her Black Collection. Sitting down with Jackie over a raspberry mocha and almond biscotti, I was able to ask her about the inspiration behind her new line and the importance of personal expression in fashion.
Alex Chase: What does fashion”mean to you?
Jackie Christie: Fashion means being able to express yourself on your own terms, whether it’s a t-shirt and jeans with knee high boots, or a boyfriends sweater with a pair of short shorts and cowboy boots! It’s dressing the way you feel and making a statement that’s right for you.
AC: As the star of “Basketball Wives LA,” what fashion sense are you bringing to your television audience each week?
JC: I love the fun sexy relaxed look. However, I’ve been known to dress up a bit, wearing anything from thigh high boots and mini skirts, to blazers or full suits. Anything goes on the show!
AC: Who is the intended audience for your new line?
JC: My new line is for the sexy, fun, outgoing, confident women. Someone who knows what she wants and is not afraid to step outside her comfort zone.
AC: What is your muse for your Black Collection?
JC: My muses for my Black Collection include Gucci and Racheal Roy. I love these designers. I also tend to look inside myself a lot, and I design with ‘me’ in mind.
AC: Have any other designers inspired you?
JC: Oh, yes! love Fendi, Gucci, Stella, Chloe, Prada. The list goes on!
AC: When did you decide to make the leap into the fashion industry, considering the many facets of your professional life?
JC: I have loved fashion since I was a little girl and always knew I would one day design my own line!
AC: How would you best describe your style?
JC: Sexy, confident, bold, and fun!
AC: Has your husband had any influence over the line?
JC: Yes! My husband is a complete Fashionisto. He loves to sit while I’m working and offer suggestions (which is not always helpful). He loves sexy, simple lines on a woman and he often helps me sketch.
AC: What was the first article of clothing you designed?
JC: The first article of clothing I designed professionally was a black cashmere car coat that I absolutely love!
AC: Where is your clothing line produced?
JC: My line is all American, it’s manufactured in Los Angeles, CA.
AC: What are some of your goals for your line?
JC: To one day be in 3 major department stores and in high end boutiques all across the country! I would love designing a “fashionista on a budget” collection for Target, H&M and HSN, as well.
AC: Where can our readers purchase your line?
JC: Coming soon to My Website and to a store near you!
After our conversation, which was simply delightful, we got down to the important issues.
