Georgia’s Golden Isles is a wonderful area to visit at any time of the year. It is made up of four barrier islands including Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island. Just in case you are planning on visiting this summer, here’s a quick rundown on some of the best places to camp:
Jekyll Island Campground
The Jekyll Island Campground is located on Riverview Drive in Jekyll Island. It is a superlative campground if you are looking for wooded and level sites. Personally, I adore it for all the shady spots and easy beach access. The weather can get really hot and humid at times, so every bit of shade and salt water helps if you ask me. Both tent and RV sites are available and nightly rates tend to start at $21.
Blythe Island Campground
The Blythe Island Campground on Blythe Island Highway in Brunswick is another great place to camp. RV as well as tent sites are available. What I like about it is the onsite freshwater lake. It is teeming with fish and there is a marina, a boat ramp, weigh station, bait shop and fishing dock on premise too. Other amenities include a coin laundry, boat rentals, a beach area, hiking trails and heated bath houses for those chilly mornings. Nightly campsite rates tend to start at $37.
Coastal Georgia RV Resort
The Coastal Georgia RV Resort on South Port Parkway is a massive facility designed with RVs in mind. The campground’s roads are paved and the campsites are level. Most sites are big enough to accommodate RVs up to 70 feet in length. Amenities include a swimming pool, boat dock, lake access, coin laundry and recreational areas. In my opinion, the only downfall is that there is precious little shade. Nightly campsite rates tend to start at $40.
Golden Isle RV Park
The Golden Isle RV Park is located on Blythe Island Highway in Brunswick. It features pull-through sites, an onsite restaurant, playground and a swimming pool. There are some shady areas to escape the heat as well as a computer room with complimentary internet connections. Rates vary and they do offer a work camper program for those that may be interested.
