Are you planning a birthday party for your son or daughter this year? If so, you may want to consider adopting a puppet theme. In my experience, a puppet themed birthday party is suitable for both boys and girls. It can also be executed fairly inexpensively. With that said, here’s a quick look at a few puppet themed party favor ideas that you may want to consider using:
Puppet crafts make superb party favors because they can double as an economical party activity. Based on my experience, there are several ways to make homemade puppets. For starters, you could have the kids make sock puppets. You could also make stick puppets, paper bag puppets or paper mache puppets. I’d suggest that you go with the sock puppet option. Sock puppets are inexpensive to make and tend to hold up to punishment better than paper bag or paper mache puppets. All you’ll need in order to make them are tube socks, stick-on google eyes, yarn and stick-on Velcro tabs. I have found that the stick-on Velcro tabs may be used to attach the puppet’s hair to the sock instead of craft glue. It is less messy and there is no drying time involved.
If you want to take the project a step further, you may want to consider having the kids make a puppet stage as well. Depending on the size of the puppet, you could have them make a puppet stage out of a medium size, cardboard box.
Puppet accessories would also make cool party favors. I would suggest that you include such items as puppet sized sun glasses, fake mustaches, puppet sized hats and puppet sized clothes. You could opt to purchase ready-made puppet accessories or make your own up ahead of time.
Puppet Head Pencils
If your child’s birthday falls during the school year, you may also want to consider using puppet head pencils as party favors. There are school supply retailers that sell pencil toppers made in the shape of an animal or a human head. You could hand out those or make your own puppet head pencils. In order to make your own puppet head pencils you will need faux fur, a bag of stick-on google eyes, a hot glue gun and a pair of scissors. Cut a piece of faux fur that is big enough to wrap around the top sides of the pencil. Then hot glue the faux fur to the pencil. Once that is done, attach a pair of google eyes to the faux fur. That is all there is to it.
