Halloween is just as much fun for adults as it is for children. Dressing up as your favorite athlete or creating a sports-related costume is not difficult.
The majority of these DIY ideas for Halloween work for both adults and children. The costumes can be put together with items you already have or can find in most thrift stores.
Dressing as a football player for Halloween is easy. A football jersey from your favorite team and a pair of leggings will create the basic costume. White leggings will work best, but any color can be used. If you do not have a jersey, you can often find them at thrift stores. Add some padding under the shoulders. A helmet is optional but can be used to carry treats. Add heavy black makeup under your eyes, and you are be good to go.
A pair of long, loose shorts and a matching colored robe with a hood creates the basics for this costume. You do not need boxing gloves; wrap your knuckles in flexible medical tape. Black sneakers and socks will complete the effect. Add a few well-placed bandages on your face — around your eyebrows or lips — and your outfit is complete.
The basic requirement for a female gymnastic costume is a leotard. A red leotard with sequins is perfect for Halloween. Tie your hair up in a ponytail, and adding a grey warm-up jacket, black sweat pants, and a gold medal will make you a temporary member of the U.S. Olympic team. Skin-tone tights can be used for warmth, if needed. Men can create the same effect with black sweat pants and a black zip-up hooded sweat jacket. Add red letters for “TEAM USA.”
Race car driver
A ski suit, or nylon warm-up suit, form the base for a race-car driver costume. Gloves and a cap will complete the outfit. Simply add fabric patches to advertise your sponsors. If you want to dress like Jeff Gordon, you will need the number 24 and a large DuPont patch. For Tony Stewart, add Office Depot emblems and the number 14 to your cap. For fun, create patches of your own sponsors; a local towing company would add some humor. Women can dress as Danica Patrick with a Go Daddy logo.
Cheerleader costumes are sexy but rather ordinary. If you want to go for a revealing look, and can stay warm enough, you only need a bikini. The top should be a larger sport-style piece. Bikini bottoms should have your chosen country’s name on the back. If it will be too cold, tightly fitting stretch pants and a T-shirt will also work.
