Society and religion love to make judgment on how successful our relationships are. The Bachelor television show has critics because a lasting marriage is rare from that popular realty show. Some ministers will not marry divorced people. Yet, in realty some statistics show 50 percent of marriages end in divorce and neither party is a criminal. It is time all the criticism and pressure to punish people that have not been lucky in love comes to an end.
Don’t Let Anyone Call You a Failure
An acquaintance made fun of me one day. He called me a failure because I had been divorced and he had been married for many years. My minister would not marry me when I met someone in his church that I felt God lead me to marry. His policy was not to marry tainted divorced people. That judgment doomed us to leave the church and live together in sin. I was previously divorced because my ex-wife wanted to bring boyfriends home with her. Perhaps these people thought I should be punished by God for the no boyfriend policy.
Relationships can be weird. Some sparks ignite immediately with couples then turn to a smoldering puff of smoke in a very short time. Other friendships blossom into romance that last into the next century. Sometimes you make the right choice quickly. Then other times the choice was right but the person changed. Arranged marriages can be happy or simply take the fun out of discovering life.
A marriage counselor may say love is a decision. Yes, a relationship can take work and real love can make the effort worth it. However, there are many cases where you can beat your head against the wall or have it done for you and enough is enough. The bachelor characters should be praised by breaking up before marriage when they see red flags in the living room. That is not failure, it is smart. Making a bad choice and doing something about it before a lot of grief comes your way is a good thing.
Have a Good Life
When I met my soul mate she said it is better to be single and have a good life than be married and have a bad life. She had me at the words good life. Being single does not mean you are a failure. There are singles cruises, church groups, and activities that can make you like a family. Don’t listen to ignorant people who have never walked in your shoes. Like a card game, deal with the hand you are given and have fun playing the game of life in a good way.
Escape from people that give you grief. Say no to judgment. Life is too short to live it on the bad side, find that good part for your world. My soul mate and I are happily married because we discovered that two happy single people can equal one happy couple. Instead of leaving the church, we found one that hugs us. People who are miserable choose that road for their life; you can choose the happy road so start doing that today.
