So you don’t have the extra money to go to the movies, out to dinner, to the beach, or anywhere. No problem! Here are few ideas for cheap entertainment with your friends.
Have friends over to play cards. Go old school and brush up on your card playing. My friends really enjoy getting together to play cards on the weekends. Do a survey of your friends and see what games they know and run with it. Keep snacks simple and inexpensive or prepare something that doesn’t cost a lot to make like spaghetti or homemade chili. Have it at your house and have your friends contribute drinks and dessert.
Potluck. Get in touch with your friends and plan a potluck. Have everyone make their favorite dish or dessert. All you need is someone to host it at their house and someone else to write down what everyone is bringing. Consider playing charades or a board game after dinner.
Swimming. If one of your group is willing to let their pool be used for a get together, reward their hospitality by having all of the other friends bring the food and drinks. Consider something simple and inexpensive like sandwiches, chips, vegetables, and dip. On a hot summers day an ice cream sundae bar can be fun for dessert. Have different people bring ice cream and toppings so that everyone can fix their sundae just the way they like it. Children will especially enjoy this.
Video games. Kick the kids off of the Wii or other game system and invite your friends over for a gaming night. We really enjoy the dancing games on the Wii. Pull out the dancing, sports, racing, or any other games you want. Once the adults have worn themselves out, let the kids have their turn.
Museum. Gather up your friends and take a trip to the local museum. Many museums don’t charge an entrance fee. Our last museum visit was during a feature of works by local school children. Prepare a picnic lunch to take with you and stop by the local park to eat your lunch and let the kids unwind.
Meet for breakfast. If you and your friends like to meet at restaurants rather than at someone’s house, consider meeting for breakfast. It usually doesn’t cost very much to grab a biscuit and coffee. My neighbor and I used to meet at a local fast food restaurant while our daughters took advantage of the playground.
When it comes to saving money on entertainment, meeting up with friends is a great way to help everyone save. A little planning can help everyone pool their resources and discover new ways to gather together and have fun.
