Shark Bar and Grill inside The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano had its grand opening this summer. I wanted to get an idea of what kind of crowd the Thursday evening happy hour would attract so I made my way to the soft opening to get a sneak peek of this much anticipated venue.
Shark Bar’s decorations are amazing. I think it is a perfect blend of an aquatic theme without going over board. The blue lights and full stage was perfect for the live band and performances. This bar, which was formerly Mustang Bar, has always been a favorite spot of party goers in the northern sector of the metroplex.
I knew when I got to the door and was greeted by Dessi Brown with LD Unlimited that I was going to be in for a treat and when I entered I was not let down. The venue was packed with a well dressed 25 to 35 year old crowd full of professionals. This was one of the best dressed urban social scenes that I have seen for happy hour in the metroplex.
Unfortunately, the crowd was not really impressed with the band this night but the dj’s selection of music was a perfect blend for those looking to move a little, while still allowing those just looking to relax after a hard days work the opportunity to sit back and chill. For those really looking to party, DJ Kayotik (from the radio station 97.9 The Beat) entered at 9pm and turned up the pace a little. His energy was quickly picked up on by the crowd and he showcased why he is one of the most requested urban DJ’s in the city. I didn’t personally eat any of the food but the desserts that were sampled that night were immaculate.
I asked 10 people to rate this happy hour from 1 to 5 and the overall ranking was a 4. I had a great time meeting and talking to a lot of new people who after a few drinks were more than happy to tell me some very interesting stories. I think the mix of music was good, the crowd was awesome, and according to those that I talked to, the bartenders made great drinks. I would recommend this Thursday happy hour for anyone looking to hang out with the top collection of urban professionals in the metroplex.
