Spool of thread, wire, yarn, or similar material
Single jewelry link
It’s fun when you can incorporate the fact that you’re a crafting person, into a craft. For example, if you love to crochet, and you glue crochet hooks around a picture frame, you can create a cute accent for your craft room. There are lots of crafts like that – ones that represent your love for doing home decorating projects, making homemade gifts, and otherwise crafting. Some people only crochet or knit; others do a huge assortment of crafts. Whether you’ve dabbled in making jewelry or not you’ll be thrilled when you wear a spool necklace for the first time. If you’ve never done a jewelry project it won’t matter because the spool project is so simple. The little spool, wrapped with thread, yarn, or other material, is a made in seconds, literally. Wear it with jeans and a tee, or use it as a cute accent with a casual dress.
Nearly anyone has a spool of thread at home, whether that person sews or not. There’s always that occasion where you have to reattach a button, or take a little stitch to keep a hem from coming out. Take that spool of thread, or buy another, and make the cutest little necklace in your collection.
When you have the supplies gathered you’ll see that it takes just moments to craft the adorable spool necklace. You’ll need a spool of thread – a miniature version makes a great jewelry piece, a single jewelry link, and a chain. A pair of needle-nose pliers is a must. A straight pin will also be helpful.
Thread is available in so many colors that anyone could find a shade that they’ll love as a necklace. But you can also buy a blank spool at a craft store, and wrap it with a variety of threads, or choose to wrap it with leather, yarn, wire, or a similar material.
Open the single link with the pliers. Near the top of the thread spool, on the side, use the pin to pull up some of the threads, a section of the wire, or a grouping of other material. Hold it out as much as possible as you slip the single link into it. You’ll need a plain chain to hang the spool of thread. Slide the single link into a link of the chain and clamp it shut. Another option is to slide a stretch cord through the hole of the spool, to create a completely different jewelry piece.
The little spool of thread is the perfect necklace – or bracelet charm – for a person who sews, someone who crafts, or even a person who works where thread is made or sold. It’s cute, it’s fast to make, and it goes with nearly any casual outfit.
