Things You’ll Need:
Sticks
Hot glue or quick-dry adhesive
Cardboard
Ribbon piece
Deciding on rustic accents for your home – or for just one room – is one of the easiest looks to create. Anyone can go out and gather rocks, sticks, pine cones, tree bark, and similar things, and it’s all free. Outside elements, when arranged indoors, can be used to create table centerpieces, dresser accents, shelf displays, baskets, and so much more. So, go on outside and gather some sticks. You’ll fall in love with a rustic wreath that you make for a wall over the bed. The free wreath doesn’t have a holiday appearance so it can hang all year long.
Gathering the Sticks:
The sticks and twigs you gather should be small in diameter but can be different lengths and sizes. They shouldn’t vary too much, though. Sticks should be similar in diameter and length. Knock any loose bark off of the sticks and otherwise clean them as you see fit.
Cardboard Backing:
A doughnut of cardboard will help to make the wreath much more stable. The cardboard shouldn’t be seen when the wreath is finished so draw a circle, and another within it, to create a doughnut shape that’s only two to four inches wide, and has a small inner circle. Slide a ribbon through the opening in the doughnut and tie the ends together. The ribbon will offer you a way to hang the stick wreath when it’s finished.
Attaching the Sticks:
Use hot glue or another quick-dry adhesive to attach the sticks to the cardboard. Align the ends of the sticks so that each one extends slightly past the inner edge of the cardboard. Glue on stick after stick, placing them right next to each other, and aligning the ends that are in the inner circle. Glue each stick to the cardboard as well as to the previous stick. Create the arrangement that you want by alternating long and short sticks, or by choosing sticks that are all the same size.
Hanging the Wreath:
Hang the rustic stick wreath over the top of the bed and it makes a stunning statement. Or, hang it over a dresser, which doesn’t have a mirror, and you have a lovely wall accent. You can even mount a round, frame-less mirror, right in the middle of the stick wreath. Craft just the arrangement that you want and then hang it in the bedroom, the living room, or even the bathroom. Although the twig wreath is especially nice over a bed, it looks just as lovely on the front door.
