Southeast Tours is a tour company located in Skagway, Alaska. They specialize in tours of Skagway, and Yukon Territory. They also feature a hiking and floating tour. My family booked one of their tours while on a cruise. We took several tours during our cruise and we choose not to book the tours associated with the cruise line. Southeast Tours handled our tour/excursion in Skagway. We took the Deluxe Yukon tour, which took us into the Yukon Territory. We made stops along the Klondike Highway at Emerald Lake, the town of Carcross, Carcross desert, White Pass Summit and many other picturesque places. We also went to Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Museum in Canada where we had a fabulous lunch and got to see husky puppies that were to be trained as sled dogs. They were so cute. They let us hold them and pet them. This tour was by far my favorite part of the trip hands down (including the cruise itself). The tour company was very organized, and we had an amazing tour guide named M.J.
Price: We paid $115 per person for this tour. It is billed as a 6-hour tour but I think we were actually out a bit longer. This price included our tour guide and bus, entrance into the Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Museum, including seeing the sled dogs and puppies, and lunch. They have other tours with various prices including tours of Skagway and White Summit ($55/person), a shorter Yukon tour ($75/person); and hiking and floating tour along the Chilkoot Trail ($95/person). These prices seem reasonable compared to those offered by the cruise ship and other tours in the area.
Location: The location of the tour agency is fairly good. It isn’t too far from to the docking ports for the cruise ships. It was within easy walking distance. It also is close to historic Skagway with shopping so that you can shop while you wait for your tour to begin.
The Tour: Our tour was fantastic. We had the best tour guide I have ever had. Her name as M.J., absolutely request her if you can. She was energetic and you can tell she loves her job. She was very knowledgeable about the area we were touring and she knew all the beautiful spots to stop for pictures. She also stopped or slowed down if we saw wildlife. As a result, we got some great pictures of bears on this tour. There were many spots to stop and take pictures my mother took 1200 pictures on this tour along. We first drove up to Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Museum. I had the best time at Caribou Crossing Trading post and Museum. The Museum wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it would be a real museum and it really is a bunch of taxidermied animals. However, visiting the Husky puppy camp was an absolute highlight. We got to pick up and play with the Husky Puppies. They were very well behaved puppies and didn’t mind at all being held. We had the best time playing with them. They also had a very nice gift shop and we bought souvenirs there. Caribou Crossing Trading Post provided lunch for our tour. Our lunch featured baked chicken with barbeque sauce, a baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, donuts, and coffee. I took some extra donuts with me for a snack later and the baked potato was better than the ones on the cruise ship. Our meal was very tasty. On our way back from Caribou Crossing Trading Post we made an unscheduled stop at a lake that was absolutely still so that you could the mountains reflected in it. We also stopped at Emerald Lake where the water is actually green. We stopped at White Pass Summit, which was lovely. We also stopped at the city of Carcross for ice cream and to buy souvenirs. We then stopped at the smallest desert in the world, Carcross desert, which is nestled in between the snowy mountains. We also stopped and skipped rocks on Bennett Lake. We also stopped at the Yukon sign to get that signature picture. We had an excellent time on this tour and I would definitely take it again.
Customer Service: Southeast Tours was excellent. They were very professional. They had us check in 45 minutes early and since we took a tour into Canada they checked everyone ‘s passport before we left. They only booked a number of people who would comfortably fit on the bus and they check us off a pre-printed list so they did honor their reservations. We also left on-time and our tour lasted longer than the promised time. I would definitely take another tour with this company.
Overall, I was very satisfied with this tour and this tour company. The tour guide was excellent, the company was very professional, we left on time, and they honored their reservations. I felt like my money was well spent on this tour. It was my favorite event of my vacation and I will treasure my memories from that day and tour.
