Rock salt, cheese, milk and cocoa. Put them together and they create an explosive new taste. But always remember, never stir, follow the instructions and drink it right from the cup to fully enjoy this deliciously new drink.
One of Happy Lemon’s proud owners, Chris Tiu, is as diverse as a cup of Cocoa with Rock Salt and Cheese! Being a TV Host, a businessman and the team captain of Smart Gilas (the Philippine national basketball team), how does he balance all these and make the most out of them? Well, probably by drinking directly from the cup and savoring all the flavors one at a time. As Tiu says, “Prioritize,” never mix up your priorities nor sacrifice one job for the other.
“Cheese is milk’s leap towards immortality.” When he graduated, a lot of people hoped that they would soon see him join and play in PBA, but he has better plans. He has a vision, he wants to represent the Philippines and hopefully take part in the Olympics. In Smart Gilas, he is able to do just that. It may be impossible to live forever, but with this leap, his mark in our motherland remains forever.
But it’s not an easy road to take. Tiu once wrote in his blog that out of all his games with National Team Gilas Pilipinas, three of them have bitter endings. From losing to Lebanon during the semis in the 2010 Dubai International, and then to Korea during the quarters in the 2010 Asian Games, and now to Ginebra during the 4th Game this 2011 PBA Commissioners Cup. “Masakit kasi ung thought na, you deserve to have done better,” Chris Tiu said.
But despite the pain, he continued knowing that this is all a part of life. There’s always a next time, what’s important is that you’ve learned from your experience, move forward and then accept the new challenges. As they say, what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger. “Basketball is a metaphor,” Tiu stated. I’ve also learned from him to just take your time out, reconstruct your game plan and make sure no one can block your way whenever you try to shoot and score.
Rock salt and chocolate, an unusual combination as most people would think, but in reality salt actually enhances chocolate’s flavor. JV Casio and Chris Tiu, the well known rivals from La Salle and Ateneo respectively, are now playing together as a team. The surprising combo instantly clicked, unlike what others believed. Tiu even says that they’re not total opposites, instead he is actually drawn into JV’s humble and unselfish personality. The captain ball even acknowledges JV Casio as a silent leader and one of the best players in their team.
With Smart Gilas, he steps forward. No matter how different everyone is from one another, one thing will always unite and mold them into that perfect cup, and that’s basketball. Like Cocoa with Rock Salt and Cheese, in the end, the bitterness of cocoa will gradually change into a sweet chocolate taste. Success does taste sweeter after all the trials you’ve overcome. “Another cup please!”
