The Bartlett Skate Park is located on 620 West Sterns Road, next to the Bartlett Aquatic Center and the baseball fields. The park is open during daylight hours, 8AM-dusk, and closed during inclement weather and/or when equipment is damaged or wet. Basic information may be obtained at www.bartlettparks.org.
This 10,000 square foot skate park contains everything a skateboarder might need, from ledges and rails, to a beef box and pyramid, and even a half pipe! The Bartlett Skate Park is limited to skateboarders and in-line skaters only. There is a fence and even a specialized turnstile door to prevent any bikes from getting into the skate park. And while helmets and other protective gear are not required, it is strongly recommended that you wear them, and from personal experience it can be very painful to not have them, especially if your just starting out.
I used to be an amateur skateboarder, and frequented the Bartlett Skate Park quite a bit. This is a great place for young skateboarders to improve their skills. I like the fact that it gives kids a safe place to go, and honestly I didn’t even realize how many skateboarders Bartlett had until I saw them all congregating at the skateboard park on opening day. And if skateboarding isn’t your thing, then you can always stop by to watch. There are bleachers on the outside of the fence for this very purpose.
The only downside to the Bartlett Skate Park is how small it is. The small size means that people sometimes get into each others way, or even bump into one another. Usually when this happens people either get hurt, or get angry. Luckily for the most part people tend to realize and understand that they have to share, and are usually very patient when waiting in line. At this time I do not believe there are any plans to expand the Bartlett Skate Park anytime soon, especially since the Bartlett Park District, who owns and operates the Bartlett Skate Park, is currently putting a lot of money expanding the Aquatic Center at this time.
My overall opinion of the Bartlett Skate Park is that it’s a great place to go. Whether you are an an aspiring skateboarder, or just enjoy watching people showcase their skills, the friendly atmosphere, and the large number of skateboarding props available makes this skate park a great addition to the town of Bartlett, and while I myself no longer skateboard, I would absolutely bring my future kids here so they can enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger.
