November has a number of important holidays such as Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but there might not be a better holiday tradition than NoShavember. This takes place over the month of November and the rules are simple. Shave on Oct. 31 and then don’t shave again for the entire month of November. The only other request is to post pictures as much as possible. Towards the end of NoShavember, here is a look at some of the best beards in movie history.
Kurt Russell, “The Thing” – One of the best horror movies ever made is John Carpenter’s “The Thing” in 1982. In the movie an alien attacks an isolated arctic base and takes the form of different workers, meaning the enemy could be anyone. However, Kurt Russell was the hero of the film and his beard might have been too much for the alien to duplicate. It was thick, bushy and awesome.
Zach Galifianakis, “The Hangover” – The beard may not have been created just for “The Hangover,” but Zach Galifianakis’ big, bushy beard remains memorable from the movie regardless. Almost like the beard of an old homeless man, it is hard to believe his character is the son of a wealthy man. It was a ridiculous beard on a very funny man, a perfect match.
Johnny Depp, “Pirates of the Caribbean” – When Johnny Depp goes in for a strange role, he goes all in. That was in full force in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” where he made sure to be the most unique pirate in a movie franchise full of them. His beard is not as full as others listed here, but the two braided strands hanging from his goatee, each with two beads, makes it an easy addition.
Robbie Coltrane, “Harry Potter” – Maybe the fullest beard on the list is Hagrid’s giant beard from the “Harry Potter” franchise. There were some great beards in the franchise, but nothing compares to the giant bushels of hair on the face of Hagrid. In the movies, he took care of the animals at Hogwarts, and with the size of his beard, there could be plenty of small critters hiding in there.
Salma Hayek, “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” – The most beautiful woman to ever sport a giant beard in a movie has to be Salma Hayek. The beautiful actress plays Madame Truska, a character who grows great beards when she gets hot with her lovers. It is possibly the only thing that kept Hayek, for a short time, from being one of the most beautiful women in cinema.
