A copy of “The Declaration of Independence” states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
If you stress fear and war mongering and taking away agreements that provide for basic survival of our people-the US social safety net, as the GOP has, then the citizens can’t pursue happiness.
The Democrats realize that the US social safety net developed by the “New Deal” and “Great Society” are agreements between the US population and its government. How can you just pretend that the agreement never was made as the GOP has been doing for generations?
In our history the US government’s “New Deal” strove to providing basic survival requirements for its citizens as illustrated in the article “The New Deal”. At that time our citizens had to survive and that is what the Democrats provided even though FDR had to fight against the GOP to do so. The article “The Same Old Deal: The GOP’s Fight Against the Ghost of FDR” spells out that the GOP hated helping the 99%then and they still do now. The Democrats policies stabilized our country. Our hopes soared and later the “Great Society” dreamed of a Camelot for us as the article “56. Politics from Camelot to Watergate” illustrates.
The article “Hierarchy of Needs” describes American psychologist Abraham Maslow’s view regarding the article’s title.
Will we ever be able to strive for his highest level in which our population can yearn for more than basic survival? The article, regarding this, states, “Self-actualizing people are self-aware, concerned with personal growth, less concerned with the opinions of others, and interested fulfilling their potential.”
Let’s be real. Which party has in the last century tried to help our citizens survive and later, when those most basic needs were provided for, strove to provide a Camelot for us? The answer is the Democrats who now are trying to help us 99% brothers.
Whenever I think of the GOP I remember the Rascals song “Look Around” which had the lyric:
“Bigotry, hate and fear
Got ten million votes this year.”
This was a swipe at “Tricky Dick”, but wouldn’t that have applied to Bush 43 just as well?
The philosophies of the GOP and the Democratic parties hasn’t changed much in the era described in this article. I support the Democrats, the party that wants to help the greatest majority.
