Some movie villains are stupid. Maybe the writers purposely had them make a dumb mistake that cost them success or maybe the writers didn’t realize how stupid they made the villain until it was too late. These are some of the dumbest villains in film. The movies might have ended differently if it wasn’t for dumb mistakes.
Rene Belloq in ‘Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark’
Belloq wants to find the Ark of the Covenant and uses the Nazis to help him get it. The Nazis want it for power, but Belloq wants it to communicate with God. He believes in the power of the Ark. Since he believes, why would he willingly open it? He should have feared opening the Ark and given it to Indy, who was not a believer.
The Wicked Witch of the West in ‘The Wizard of Oz’
The real villains in the movie are Glinda and the Wizard. They manipulate and use Dorothy to rid Oz of the Wicked Witch of the West, although Dorothy is never told what she really did that was so bad. Her sister is dead and her only possession, the ruby slippers, are given to Dorothy. The Wizard tells Dorothy to kill the witch so she can go home, but all she needed was the slippers. Of course, Glinda doesn’t tell her that until they finish using her. What if the Wicked Witch of the West waved a white flag, had a sit down chat with Dorothy, and made her see who was really evil in Oz?
Cal Hockley in ‘Titanic’
The man gives Rose his coat with the necklace in the pocket. Idiot. He didn’t even give her the coat because he cared about her, but only to make it seem like he did. Some might say that in the hubbub of the ship singing he might have forgotten the necklace. That doesn’t fly because the necklace is all that mattered to Cal.
The Empire in ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’
By this time in the series, the first Death Star was destroyed and the Empire is rebuilding a new one. In the climax of the movie, both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader are on the new Death Star and then they tell the Rebel army to come at them with guns blazing. So, they do, thinking that the Death Star is not fully operational. Not that it mattered. It was operational when they destroyed it the first time, so why couldn’t they do it again?
Megatron in ‘Transformers’
Megatron wants the AllSpark cube thingamajig to create an army and destroy the world. This cube will also kill him. He wants it anyway and ends up dead. Optimus Prime isn’t any smarter in the film. He offers to kill himself with the AllSpark to stop Megatron, but Megatron would still be around to wreak havoc and Earth would not have Optimus Prime for protection. Real smart. Even if Megatron did get the AllSpark, Starscream, if he actually walked the walk instead of talked the talked, could have used it to kill Megatron and finally take command.
