The Joy Formidable is a Welsh alternative rock band that is currently based out of London, England. The band features a highly unique sound with some seriously catchy tracks. The band is comprised of Ritzy Brian, Rhydian Dafydd, and Matt Thomas, and together, they have created some of the most original pieces of music I have heard in recent time. Here is a look at five of the best songs by the Joy Formidable, and why they aren’t about to fade from the indie spotlight anytime soon.
The first song I ever heard by the Joy Formidable was “Cradle.” Upon first listen, I was blown away from their rare blend of originality and ingenuity. “Cradle” proves that this band knows how to rock hard, while creating a melody that slowly evolves into a beautifully blended song. “Cradle” has been playing on my mp3 player for years now, and it will not be going away any time soon.
Another amazing song by the Joy Formidable is “Whirring.” A fantastic song with a seriously catchy rhythm; when I first heard this song I was immediately hooked. “Whirring” features a building intensity, highly hypnotic beat, and telling lyrics, that make this track one of my favorite songs ever written by the Joy Formidable.
“Austere” is another incredible song by the Joy Formidable. This seriously original song intermingles fast and mellow tempos, with ambiance-like sounds, and flawless vocals. “Austere” is a song that shows just how diverse and original the Joy Formidable truly are.
“Endtapes” is a song by the Joy Formidable that was featured in the “Twilight” saga major motion film “Breaking Dawn: Part 1.” This song is a high energy track with fast moving lyrics and a completely unique sound. The lyrics of the song tell a story, and the lyrics definitely draw the listener in.
“The Greatest Light is the Greatest Shade”
“The Greatest Light is the Greatest Shade” is one of the Joy Formidable’s best songs to date. Upon first listen, I got goosebumps listening to this song just with the beginning guitar rift, and when Ritzy began to sing, the deal was done. I was officially hooked on the Joy Formidable.
