I love video games so I really need to get this out; I really hate all the whining and complaining that has befallen on the gaming community.
Now before everyone starts to think I’m talking about the PC crowd only I want you to know, I’m talking about everybody, from the PC to the consoles.
I’m going to focus on the PC crowd, mainly the “elitists”, for now and then I will move on to the console crowd in my next article.
I rarely play PC games because I find console games a little more convenient, as I don’t want to worry if my computer can handle a certain game(s).
I don’t want anyone thinking this will be one sided and bias, I love the PC crowd; they help developers create an engine capable of pushing new limits.
I myself grew up playing console games, I need to say that now and be upfront with my honesty. Ok PC gamers hear me out for a second, this were my criticisms starts.
Please stop thinking you guys and gals are the Gods of gaming, I’m sorry but you’re not.
Yeah modding is huge in your world but that doesn’t make you the elitist bad asses you think you are.
Honestly I find PC gamer, or at least the elitists, the second most annoying of whiners.
They cry over “lack of support” i.e. “This developer/publisher is charging me for DLC, I remember when those things were free.”
Yeah the ridiculous amount of DLC that’s been going on is very frustrating and I love free stuff as much as the next gamer but, let’s get something straight here, the people making these games are doing it of love; they love making games, it’s their job of choice.
With that said, they have to find a way to make publishers and stock holders happy by making money, especially now that games costs as much as a Hollywood movie to make now.
I know you think you deserve the very best, from dedicated servers to free DLC; all from the developers and publishers pockets, and I agree more free DLC would be great; that didn’t come from a pre-order at six different retailers.
I never understood why PC gamers always felt the need to shoot down any and every game that has DLC they can choose to buy or ignore.
Here’s what you can do, buy the extra bit or don’t nobody is forcing you, if you don’t want the DLC don’t get it.
I also agree DRM is garbage and I was with PC gamers 100% on the battle against such an unholy monstrosity, but then the community does a 180 and praises Valve.
Wait, did I miss something? EA and Ubisoft does it and they’re the scum of the planet but Valve does it with an in-house dedicated site and the PC community acts as if Valve solved the problem.
I do have Steam and I do use it, mainly so I can play Civilization 4 and 5, and I honestly don’t see why Valve received so much praise for what is exactly what Ubi and EA are doing.
I was at WestPoint last summer helping with the cadets training and we, the regular soldiers, were put in a cabin with no internet.
I wanted to play Civilization 5 and guess what? The Steam program wouldn’t let me, so I asked my buddy who is a PC gamer what I could do or if I was out of luck, he told me to put the program in offline mode.
I did as he said and the program refused to let me play a game I bought legally, yet I could still play my EA games with no problems.
How exactly is Valve different to where they can do the exact same thing with DRM like EA but still remain the prodigy child?
It doesn’t make sense to me, is it because Valve gives out free virtual hats that do nothing?
I know Valve loves pumping out free stuff when they’re not making stupid updates that bring even dumber content in the game like purchasable keys that can be used only once, to get an item that may or may not be useful to you.
Heck, they even have a “premium” Team Fortress 2 that gives out extra goodies, I bring this up to ask PC gamers this, if anyone other than Valve did this would you still be as happy as you are now?
I know the deal with the premium is to reward people who actually bought the game before it became free and I think that’s awesome, now if EA did this I’m sure a storm would have been brewing.
It’s not those things that make PC gamers, more or less the elitists, completely annoying but the way they look down on everyone else; including their own.
Like I mentioned earlier, they think they’re the Gods of gaming. Notice I say said they and not the PC crowd, I refuse to accuse every PC gamer of doing this.
I’m against modding a game, it doesn’t feel “legit” to me, if comes from the actual studio that made the game awesome; if not, than I don’t want anything to do with it.
I’ve heard a lot of PC gamers complain about how developers should “hand over” their engine and codes in the form of a SDK.
Seriously, why the heck would I want to hand over my hard work just so you can screw with it and play in a completely different way it was meant to be played?
It seems that the PC community are becoming more and more ungrateful, they act as if everyone should bow before them and be thankful they exists.
The community should take a close look at itself and change their mindset on how the gaming world works, because it’s not the 90’s anymore, you’re not the Gods you believe yourselves to be.
