In the most recent episode of “The Neighbors,” the aliens struggle to understand the concept of birthdays. It turns out that Debbie is crazy when it comes to planning birthday parties, and that is something that the neighbors don’t grasp. They also don’t understand work, and that is something Larry hopes to rectify by visiting Marty’s place of employment. In a perfect bit of humor that sums up the show, Larry takes a hard hat and a shovel to the job, despite the fact that the job is in a typical office building. Between birthday parties and work, there was plenty going on in this episode. Here is a recap of the latest episode of “The Neighbors.”
After a recap of the series premise, Debbie and Abby are having tea with Jackie and Dick. Abby wants to invite Dick to her birthday party, and Debbie explains that she wants to go all out for the event. She feels like it’s a way to impress her kids. Marty explains to Larry that that Debbie tends to get a little crazy when it comes to birthday parties, and even provides video evidence. As Debbie prepares for the ridiculous party, Jackie and Larry watch. After a little mocking, they realize that this is another chance to learn from the humans. Jackie points out that she will learn about birthdays, while Larry should learn about work with Marty.
Larry visits Marty’s office, and doesn’t seem overly impressed with anything. When Marty’s boss visits, Larry informs him that he can help him overthrow her and seize power. Marty ignores him, and Larry continues to be bored. However, a mistake with the inventory numbers leads to bigger problems for Mr. Weaver. He doesn’t realize that he was using last year’s reports, and now he might have to miss the party in order to finish his project. After explaining to Larry that he only gets 15 minutes to enjoy with his family each year, Larry helps him out and finishes the project. Marty is able to attend the party, and Larry finally understands that sense of accomplishment that comes with work.
The birthday party
Jackie attempts to learn things about birthdays, but it’s almost impossible to get through to a focused Debbie. She even gets a warning from Max, who plans to hide out in a fort during the chaotic event. Jackie is mortified by watching how bossy and demanding Debbie can be. After Debbie isn’t pleased with Jackie’s ribbons, she hides out in the fort with Dick, Max, and Abby. Dick asks Jackie to have a birthday party, but she says that a child’s birthday party is the most harrowing thing she has ever seen.
Eventually, Jackie confronts Debbie about how terrible birthday parties are. Debbie admits that only she gets crazy, and mentions how she had nothing growing up. Jackie decides to get the rest of the neighborhood to help, and encourages Debbie to relax as if it were her own birthday. The party has its share of strange events, but both Abby and Dick enjoy it. Meanwhile, Debbie appreciates being able to relax, and thanks Jackie for her help.
