Recently, the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame and former Packer president Bob Harlan reached out to Favre via his agent Bus Cook trying to mend fences by inviting Favre to attend a Hall of Fame induction event. Bus Cook didn’t even bother returning the call.
I understand that there will be all this posturing by the Packers to say they are going to bring Lord Favre back into the fold and everything will be a peachy love fest as if nothing happened. Why not gain the respect of everyone in sports and just completely slam the door shut on Favre. Favre was on a personal mission to burn 1265 Lombardi Avenue to the ground and threw anyone and everything under the bus in order to achieve his own agenda. His agent and Favre were so over the top in their quest to scorch Green Bay that it boggled even the minds of non Packer fans. Favre had become Favre Inc. and his nutty inner circle convinced him that he was now bigger than the Packers. I don’t think his inner circle had to work to hard to convince Lord Favre of this.
The Packer organization, to their credit didn’t give a single inch and made the obvious right decision. Favre was never what anyone would call a “big game player” even when he was younger and now that he was older, his chokes in big games were now blatantly obvious. Ask the Vikings how they feel about they feel about Favre in big games.
Favre had every right to come back. Green Bay had every right to put a quarterback on the field who wasn’t going to fold like a cheap suit in a big game and to be clear even the biggest Favre apologists can not deny his big game chokes. they were routine and you could count on them.
Favre and Cook personally lied to and leaked a private conversation between Packer president Murphy and themselves and leaked it with-in twenty minutes of the meeting. The Obama administration doesn’t even leak that fast and they are pretty quick themselves. Murphy and the Packer board now knew first hand they were dealing with self serving liars at this point.
Favre hates the Packers and the Packers have zero respect for Favre. The entire world know’s that. So why not take a refreshing non-hypocritical position. Retire his number over a lunch break, send out a one sentence memo to the media advising of such, and move on. Al Davis if nothing else was not a hypocrite. He wouldn’t just keep Favre away from his operation, he would put a restraining order on the guy. The Packers would be doing a unique favor to everyone by just walking away and moving on. Favre is not coming unless he is begged anyhow? If the Packers took the hardened position, Favre would eventually come crawling back on his own as soon as it suited his objective. if there is anyone who doubts Favre’s love of himself, just check out his web page. If he was the hall monitor in fifth grade it would be posted. He has every single stat from every grade practically on it and he uses his personal stats page to talk about how he had to over come false rumors put out by people after his leaving Green Bay. Its as nauseating as it is humorous. It wreaks of insecurity and self love.
I was a huge Favre fan and am still a big time diehard Packer and I would be relieved to never see Favre anywhere near Green Bay ever again. The fake adoration will make me sick to my stomach when it occurs, and while the national media might think Favre will return to exalted status in Green Bay, they will be wrong. Favre has rubbed anyone with common sense and a sense of right and wrong completely the wrong way. He will never get the fan base back. when he was trying to torch the Packers, he actually forever torched his reputation and exposed himself to the world as to what really is and that is a self serving hypocrite concerned only with his own needs.
