The Real Housewives & Kim Kardashian – Are They the Modern Day Marie Antoinettes?

by pop tug

One doesn’t have to look very far to see people suffering in this economy, but we don’t have blinders on like Kim Kardashian and some of The Real Housewives . These women appear to be oblivious to other people’s misfortunes, and they flaunt their grotesque spending habits in front of us regularly.

According to popular belief, Marie Antoinette was known for the same kind of selfishness and greed that helped start the French Revolution. Will these “modern Maries” also go too far in the eyes of the public?

There are many people who enjoy these Reality TV shows, but… Will people still like them when they can’t feed their children or when they lose their homes or their jobs?

Could they, over time, develop an extreme hatred and disgust for Kim Kardashian and The Real Housewives ? Would that extreme hatred and disgust spill over to all of the very wealthy in this world? What could happen if millions or even billions of people hit their worst economic pain threshold?

This could be the final straw that stirs up a revolution.

Will these financially-suffering people be able to watch Taylor Armstrong throw a $60,000 birthday party for her 4 year old child on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and not feel resentful? How about Kim Kardashian’s $10,000,000 wedding and $2,000,000 ring for a marriage lasting only 72 days?

With that kind of money, how many families could have stopped their children from crying because they are hungry? How many homeless families could have roofs over their heads again?

Kim Zolciak , The Real Housewives of Atlanta, says that people love her real hair so why does she spend in the neighborhood of $12,000 a month for wigs ? Her wigs live better than some people.

What makes these women feel so entitled?

Are we to feel sorry for Teresa Giudice (The Real Housewives of New Jersey), Taylor Armstrong (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), or Lynne Curtin (The Real Housewives of Orange County) who are experiencing financial troubles when it’s their excessively opulent lifestyles that put them there?

Television is ill-advised to air programs that depict rich, rude, immoral, selfish and greedy people, especially if this economy gets much worse. These shows just add fuel to a fire that is already slowly burning.

Even the most passive of people will inflame if the pain is great enough.

Why do we learn history? Because “if we don’ learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it”. It’s a cliché, but very true.

Marie Antoinette lost her head over the public’s perception of her. They saw her as overly extravagant during a time when they couldn’t even afford bread to feed their families. Their pain became great enough to storm the Bastille and overthrow the monarchy.

Could something similar happen today?

This economy has caused “open sores” of pain for so many people, and the Real Housewives, Kim Kardashian and her family are rubbing salt into those sores, causing more pain.

“Off with her head!” was shouted by the citizens of France as the guillotine came down, ending Marie Antoinette’s life.

For the Kardashians ‘ and The Real Housewives ‘ sake, one can only hope that the citizens just shout, “Off with their shows!”
