I’m not the reality show loving kind of guy expect for TUF, Jersey Shore, The Real World, Big Brother, but on Sundays after 9:00 p.m. there doesn’t seem to be anything else to watch. Its mid-October and the NFL on NBC is over and MLB playoffs on TNT are done. What to do?
A few years back, my wife started watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey. From time to time, I’d walk into our bedroom and find her glued to the TV, watching housewives scream at the top of their lungs. You can guess which housewife I’m talking about right? Well, I got hooked. Yeah I know it’s a bunch of rich females, living in big ol’ houses and gossiping about each other but who the heck can walk by a TV set when a bunch of them are yelling at each other? Even if I wanted to avoid such Einstein level programming, Bravo replays episodes over and over and over and over. Giving viewers like my wife an opportunity to saturate their minds with the latest episodes.
The first time I got hooked was when an episode of the first finale aired. So, I’m sitting at my computer trying to do some work when I hear sweet Teresa screaming at the top of her lungs. Man, that woman got issues. Again, how can anyone, man or woman, sit there and not turn around and look at the TV to see what’s going on? Not me, says I. Bravo found a real winner with rich women sharing their boring “Posche” lives with the rest of the world. Shoot, I just gave away that I’ve watched more than just the finale.
Ok I’ll admit it I’ve watched RHONJ and other housewife shows not because I wanted to initially but because I had no choice. Just like Jersey Shore, I was forced to because nothing else was on TV and that my wife happened to be watching. For me it’s a love-hate relationship with this show because I’ll watch to see what happens to the one or two women I can’t stand. I’m curious and thrilled to see the other women gang up on the hated one. Have you ever disliked something so much that you find yourself obsessing over it? Well, that’s where I’m at with The Real Housewives franchise. It’s like a song I can’t stand that I replay in my mind over and over again.
Now that The RHONJ is done for this year I’m clamoring over the next season. Does Teresa come back? Does she reconcile with her brother? If she was my sister, I’d back hand her and kick her to the curb. There’s so many ways the next season can go. I’m going to say that Teresa’s not going anywhere. How could she? She’s public enemy number and who doesn’t like a fight between good and bad?
I can’t believe I just wrote an article about The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Yikes! What’s this world come to?
