If you are currently looking for a job in this economy, it can feel like an uphill battle. I know it does for me. I have experience and an MBA so more of my time is spent being creative about work at home strategies that can put money in the bank while I am still looking for a job. If you want to start something of your own while you are looking for other work or something that can supplement your current income, or even become your regular full time job, the key is to think about things that you are knowledgeable about and enjoy doing. These are three ideas that I came up with.
Coupon Clip Service
Who doesn’t love watching Extreme Couponing and seeing a whole cart load of groceries leave the store for $10? Each region of the country usually gets their own coupons from certain companies so something I get in Alabama would be different than people in Oregon would get. There may be a lot of people in Oregon that would like to have what I got. You can start by setting up an eBay store or if you have the knack, building a website to sell your coupons. Then get to clipping, buy extra copies of the Sunday paper for circulars and hit up friends and family for circulars they aren’t using. Charge per coupon and all the shipping will be covered by a stamp, which you can also charge for. Then you need to get to promote the service, try free advertising like Web 2.0 tools (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Blogger).
If you have a knack for creating something from nothing then make a product. Whether it is hair bows, bandana purses, tissue box covers, or Christmas ornaments, if you are good at it make them. Then sell them. Etsy.com specializes in letting you sell your crafty goods or you can try out eBay. You can also take samples to local boutiques and gift shops to see if they are interested or rent a booth at your local flea market.
Professors and teachers everywhere are going to hate me for this one. There are a lot of sites available out there where students can pay to get their work done, especially online classes. Some companies offer to take your whole online class for you for a fee. I am not condoning this behavior because it represents part of the breakdown of the education system. If you are very good at algebra, trig, calculus, chemistry, or economics, classes that many people struggle with, you could start a tutoring website. You could offer so many hours of Skype tutoring for a certain fee to teach a student one on one how to excel in your subject of expertise.
The point is, to know your strengths, and build from there. Everyone is good at something; it just may not be what people around them are good at. If you take your passion and then search for a way to turn passion to profit then chances are you can come up with a decent idea to generate income from home.
