Between going to Christmas parties and attending work events, there’s a need for quite a few holiday fashions to get you through the season. Considering the already expensive cost of the holidays, the last thing you want to do is have to shell out a ton of money to expand your wardrobe just so you don’t have to wear the same thing twice around the same people. So if you’d rather go the budget friendly route, there are several ways to revamp your wardrobe so you’re all set with enough holiday fashions to take you through the season.
Dye your clothes
A little dye can go a long way for altering your wardrobe. For example, take that white dress you’re tired of and dye it black or that pink sweater and dye it red. You’ll have several new pieces of clothing for the holidays all for the cost of a bottle of dye.
Add a belt
If you have a plain shirt whether it’s a button down or a turtleneck, cinch it around the waist with a regular belt or a ribbon. Something so simple can completely change the look of the piece. Do the same thing with a pair of pants, such as tying a thin red scarf around your waist. Even a lightweight summer scarf can double as a belt.
Add some sparkle
Change a plain shirt into something a little more dressy by adding some sparkle in the form of rhinestones. You don’t want it to look too cheesy or over the top, so even a simple strip around the bust line or along the neckline can be enough. Rather than attach them one by one, use strips of rhinestones instead.
Add girly touches
If you have a plain shirt you want to make a little more dressy, attach some girly touches such as lace or a ribbon. For example, tie a silk ribbon into a bow and attach it onto the neckline or at the shoulder or use fabric glue to attach lace appliques around the neckline or across the bustline. It’s much less expensive than buying a whole new shirt in the store.
Make it a different piece of clothing
There are so many ways to alter clothes to make them look completely different. You can change a shirt to a skirt, a men’s shirt to a dressy women’s shirt or a shirt to a dress. You’ll start to look at your clothes in a whole new way and you won’t have to go out to buy all new pieces.
Hold a clothing swap
If you and your friends are looking for new clothes for the holidays, hold a mid-season clothing swap. It’s a great way to get rid of clothes you no longer want in exchange for a bunch of free new ones. Having a clothing swap is also a good opportunity to get together with friends for some holiday fun.
It may take a bit of time to alter your clothes, but it’s a lot of fun and a good project to do with your friends or kids. You’ll save a huge amount of money in the process and the end result will be new holiday pieces you’ll get to show off at all your events and gatherings.
