Are you looking for a few card games to play with the family this evening? Maybe you are tired of playing Go Fish, Uno, Old Maid, War and Blackjack. If so, I have a few card games that I can suggest. Each one is a card game that I have played with my family. Most of the card games can be played by a family of four. Full directions for each one may be found by conducting an internet search. Here they are:
Concentration is also known as the matching game in our household. Several people may play the game at one time. In order to play it, you will need at least one standard deck of cards. If you have a lot of people that want to play the game, you may opt to use multiple decks. What makes it a great family game is that it is simple enough to be played by children as young as 5 years of age.
Start by separating and placing all the playing cards face down onto the table. Each player then gets a chance to turn over two cards. If the cards match, the player gets to keep those two cards and turn over two new cards. If the first player’s two cards don’t match, the next player gets a chance to turn over two cards. The game continues like that until there are no cards left. The person with the most matched sets wins.
My children loved to play Slap Jack when they were little because the rules were simple and they could slap the table during the course of the game. Your children might enjoy playing the game as well. It can be played by two or more players. In order to play it, you will need a basic deck of playing cards with the jokers removed. Divide the cards, face down, amongst all the players. One by one, have each player turn over a card. If a player happens to turn over a jack, the first person to slap the jack gets to keep the card as well as the discard pile. The ultimate goal is to finish the game with more cards than your opponents.
Bull poop is a card game that is known by several names including liar, bluff and cheat. It can be played by many people at one time. When I was a preteen, I’d play the card game every weekend with the neighbors down the street. It was a big affair that involved several different families. My friends and I liked playing the card game because we got to yell, “bull poop.” At the time, we thought it was funny to do so.
In order to play the game, you’ll need a standard deck of playing card with the jokers included. Begin by dividing the deck up evenly amongst all the players and put any remaining cards into a discard pile. Each player’s goal is to get rid of the cards in his or her hand first by either bluffing or telling the truth about the cards to the other players. If you think that another player is lying about his or her hand, you get to yell, “bull poop.”
Gin Rummy is one of my all time favorite card games. In my opinion, it is better suited for preteens and teens because of the complexity of the rules. However, my youngest child was able to play the game when he was just 7 years old. In order to play the game, you will need two to four players and a deck of playing cards with the jokers removed. In our household, we like to deal each player 10 cards and put the remaining cards into a discard pile. Each player’s goal is to create card sequences until he or she runs out of cards. Once a player runs out of cards, everyone’s hand is totaled and the player with the most points wins.
Rummy 500 is very similar to gin rummy thus I’d recommend it for older kids. It can be played by two or more players. If you have a big family, you’ll need to play the game using multiple decks. In general, if you have more than four people in your family, you’ll need two standard decks of cards. Basically, each player gets dealt 13 cards. The goals are to create card sequences, be the first person to run out of cards and reach 500 points in the process.
