With the recent release of the Dr. Seuss movie, “The Lorax”, on DVD in Blu-ray format, your kids may be pestering you for a Lorax themed birthday party this year. If so, I’d like to offer a few Lorax themed party favor suggestions. Here they are:
Speak for the Truffula Trees
The Lorax is known to speak for the trees, so why not give the children a tree themed party favor. For instance, you could hand out tree saplings. One easy and inexpensive way to get tree saplings is to join the Arbor Day Foundation in your child’s name. In most instances, when you sign up as a member the foundation will send you several free trees. You could also opt to purchase party favor items through companies like Too Little Trees. Every time consumers purchase select products from the company, the company’s staff will plant a tree.
Lorax Themed Bird Houses and Feeders
Because the Lorax was also concerned about the birds, you may want to consider handing out design your own birdhouses. In my opinion, design your own birdhouses are a great value because they can double as a party activity. In my experience, undecorated birdhouses as well as design your own birdhouse kits are available for purchase through major craft stores, wood working supply shops and party supply shops. In my experience, a dozen undecorated birdhouses will typically cost you $15.
Lorax Themed Edibles
If you want to hand out edible, Lorax themed party favors, you’ll need to get creative. I’d suggest that you consider purchasing a mustache lollipop mold and creating chocolate versions of the Lorax’s distinctive stash. Wilton makes mustache candy molds that may be purchased through confectionary supply shops for less than $2 each. You could also create a Lorax out of sugar cookie dough or marzipan. Another option is to create Truffula trees using cotton candy and Pixy Stix. You can generally purchase a case of cotton candy and a case of Pixy Stix through candy wholesalers for less than $15 each.
Recycled School Supplies
School supplies made from recycled materials would also make excellent Lorax themed party favors. There are companies like Tree Smart that make pencils and rulers out of recycled newspapers. There are also companies that make recycled crayons, notebooks and other items as well. In most instances, you may purchase earth-friendly school supplies through specialty shops. I’d suggest that if you do go with the recycled school supplies that you place them inside a gift bag made from recycled materials.
Lorax Coloring and Activity Books
Are you on a strict budget? If so, you may want to consider handing out Lorax themed coloring books and activity books. Energy Star offers complimentary Lorax Activity Books on their website. There are also several other websites that offer free Lorax themed coloring pages. You could print the coloring pages and staple them in between two sheets of recycled paper. Afterward, you could hand it out as a party favor.
