Are you headed to Sussex County, New Jersey? Do you like shopping? If so, I have a few places that I can recommend. When I lived in the general area my family and I would shop at these places often. Here they are:
Old Lafayette Village
Old Lafayette Village is one of my favorite places to shop. It is located on Route 15 and 94 in Lafayette. Like the name suggests, the stores are laid out in a village like setting. One store in particular that I would recommend is the Olde Village Book Cellar. It always had the best deals on new and used books. I was also able to grab magazines there that I generally couldn’t find elsewhere like “Sales and Marketing Management.” The Cigar Room and Village Antiques are two other specialty shops that I would recommend as well. The village typically opens Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and on Sundays at 11 a.m. In my opinion, one of the best times to visit is during the winter holidays. The place gets decked out in lights and there are carolers and holiday music playing wherever you go. The other optimal time to visit is during the summer and fall when the farmer’s market is open. I love the market’s selection of artisan breads and cheeses.
Peters Valley Craft Center
The Peters Valley Craft Center is located on Kuhn Road in Layton. Based on my experience, it is the most amazing place to go if you appreciate hand-made items. In addition to shopping, you can also take a wide array of arts and crafts classes onsite. There is an art gallery on premise as well. The center is generally open year round with varying hours of operation. Each fall the center hosts an incredible fine craft fair that I always made a point of attending. The fair offers live entertainment, art activities for the kids and much more. Personally, I enjoyed the jewelry and pottery exhibits the most.
Downtown Newton
The downtown district in Newton is another superlative site to spend a day shopping. What I like about it most is Spring Street. Spring Street is a retail incubator area, so you never known what you’ll find there. Of course there are other stores that have been there a while. One of my favorite, long-standing shops is Flowers in the Attic. It carries a nice selection of scented candles and personal care items. The downtown district is also the site of special events held through the year. In my opinion, the best one is the Annual Taste of Newton. It is traditionally held in the fall and features great food. Many of the stores open daily and hours of operation vary.
