Top Rope Promotions, formerly known as New England Wrestling and Yankee Pro Wrestling, celebrated its 31st year in business this past Friday with it’s presentation of “The Anniversary Event”. The event was headlined by former WWE Tag Team Champions Bubba Ray Dudley versus Devon Dudley. The special guest referee for the match was Spike Dudley. Over 300 screaming fans crammed the historic PAL Hall in Fall River to observe this spectacular event. Here are the complete results for Top Rope Promotions “The Anniversary Event.”
Biff Busick defeated Jason Blade
The “Manliest Man” Biff Busick made a triumphant return to Top Rope Promotions on Friday night when he defeated the popular Jason Blade for the TRP Interstate Championship. The collision between these two athletes set the tone for the evening, as the action was fast paced and hard hitting. Though Jason Blade lost the match, he has vowed to regain the Interstate Championship in the future.
The Whaling City Wrecking Crew submitted The All Winners Club
The Top Rope Promotions Tag Team Champions successfully defended their championship against Gregory Edwards and Isys Ephx, The All Winners Club. Manager Marshal McNeil was banned from ringside. The ending saw both Nick Steel and Franky Vain grab tandem submission holds to make both Isys and Edwards tap out.
Vinny Marseglia pinned Bob Evans
After Bob Evans gained a sneaky win at the January 1st show, Marseglia has been out to prove that he can beat one of his trainers, “Brutal” Bob Evans. Evans relied too heavily on his veteran experience, and Marseglia was able to counter that. The Ring of Honor athlete was trying to grab a foreign object out of his trunks when Marseglia hit him with a top rope dropkick for the duke.
Alexxis Nevaeh and Luscious Latasha beat Loretta Van Wick and Sandy Starr
In a comedic match-up, the women of Top Rope Promotions proved they were too much for the newly formed tag team of Loretta Van Wick and Sandy Starr. Despite efforts to hide her identity, Van Wick was revealed to be none other than Marshal McNeil in drag. Sandy Starr however was revealed to be an actual woman. The self proclaimed “Drag Team Champions” left the PAL Hall exhausted and embarrassed.
Devon pinned Bully Ray
In the much anticipated battle between The Dudley Boyz, Devon pinned Bully Ray after a spine buster. The bout consisted of all the signature Dudley Boyz maneuvers, including the “wassup” head butt off the top rope. After the match, Gregory Edwards ran out and attacked Spike and Devon, only to be overpowered by the TNA superstar. Edwards was then put through a table. Unfortunately, Edwards injured his shoulder and will be out for several months.
Brandon Webb won the Gold Rush Ladder Match
“The Devil’s Reject” Brandon Webb was able to overcome the brutal nature of the ladder match to capture the gold briefcase. This ensures Webb will be granted a shot at any title he wishes, at any future TRP event. The clash also featured Johnny Angel, Gino Giovanni, Kevin Peirera, “H20” Ryan Waters and Jay Freddie.
Matt Magnum submitted Matt Taven
In his first wrestling match since his medical scare last year, Matt Magnum showed a testament to the human spirit when he defeated Matt Taven for the TRP Heavyweight Championship. The twenty minute encounter had the fans on the edge of their seats. Numerous chants filled the PAL Hall throughout the match. The fans were solidly behind the underdog Matt Magnum. After being kicked in the chest repeatedly by Taven, Magnum was able to grab a crossface submission move to make Taven tap.
Luke Robinson defeated QT Marshal
Unlike Biff Busick, who had a successful debut , QT Marshal was unsuccessful in his first match for Top Rope Promotions. Luke Robinson proved he was tough enough to hang with the former IWA-Puerto Rico champion.
