by pop tug

Ah yes, lack of sleep, depression, animosity, stress induced as a direct correlation to your job, school, kids, finances, domestic issues and the list goes on and on seamlessly without solace or end in sight. The health implications associated with this type of lifestyle are grim at best, not to mention, who in the right mind is motivated by or thrives on this counteractive way of life, day in and day out? Getting involved in an exercise program, engaging in a hobby, reading and meditation can combat the serious effects brought upon by life’s daily grind. Take a moment and think about a saltwater aquarium and the numerous benefits that can be acquired as a result of setting one up in your home or office.

Have you ever wondered why aquariums are encountered in so many hospitals, doctor’s offices and medical facilities around the globe? How about the increasing numbers of people, such as you and I, that visit public aquariums each year. Did you know that the saltwater aquarium hobby has consistently been ascending over the past several years. Why? You may be scratching your head while trying to render a valiant answer. Well, I will give you three substantial reasons why, setting up and maintaining a saltwater aquarium can provide benefits often not realized.

Let’s begin with your health. I think we can all agree that our health is important to us. Considering all of the potentially dissonant variables encountered over the course of a day, incorporating a saltwater aquarium into your modus vivendi, or lifestyle can help alleviate many of these animosities and complexities. Marine aquariums enable us to be able to relax while lowering blood pressure and minimizing stress. Instead of taking prescription drugs to reduce anxiety and stress, incorporating and spending time in front of a saltwater aquarium may just be healthy alternative to what your physician may prescribe or at the very least can coexist and compliment your medication regimen.

The second reason why incorporating and maintaining a saltwater aquarium in a home or office is the enjoyment aspect. The fascination and beauty encountered on the coral reefs of the world teeming with life, vivid colors, stunning formations of a plethora of corals, coexisting together while providing food, shelter and a complex breeding ground for various broadcast spawners and mouth brooders are just a few attributes of a saltwater biotope. This fascination and enjoyment provided by corals reefs has surfaced many years ago with the popularity of the Jacque Cousteau televisions shows. On the heals of Cousteau’s historic shows came the Jeff Corwin Experience and Crocodile Hunter, where Steve Irwin would invite fans to explore not only the reptilian community but the undersea world as well. These shows would provided immense interest to aquarists and thrill seekers while educating people on many aspects of the underwater world and its diverse and delicate life forms, beauty and the various biotopes that are all, unique in their own way. You could say that, as a direct result of these aquatic pioneers, an enormous amount people have become enthralled about their involvement in creating a replica of a natural reef as close as their living room.

People are now able to maintain many animals and algae on a smaller scale that are actual inhabitants of the same reefs being explored by Cousteau, Corwin, Irwin and by many avid snorkelers and divers. The other valid point to be made here is, that technological advances in equipment combined with the countless efforts provided by researchers, marine biologists, aquariologists and marine scientists have provided the aquarium hobby and livestock with better results and diversity in inhabitants. All of these factors have contributed to an exciting and enjoyable present as well as future for a long time to come.

The third reason for adding a marine aquarium, or any type of aquarium for that matter, into your lifestyle is the educational and preservational aspects that an aquarium can provide. Think about the myriad of life forms that can be experienced not only through the naked eye but under the microscope as well on a much smaller scale. Being able to explore feeding and breeding habits, unique personality traits, husbandry and compatibility requirements while getting a feel for life underwater, where we know more about the moon than the undersea world. Child and adult alike can, and will, benefit from the educational prowess combined with the ecological and preservational aspects that can be associated with an aquarium. Many people, unfortunately, do not have a clear understanding of just how serious and potentially devastational the consequences can be if we do not do our part to preserve the diverse and delicate coral reefs of our world. An awareness can be portrayed by visiting your local public aquarium as well as by incorporating an aquarium into your life at your home or office. This awareness can prove favorably by educating and promoting a conscientious attitude towards our beautiful and delicate ecosystem under the waters surface. If our efforts go unnoticed and people neglect to do their part to help preserve and protect our beautiful, diverse and delicate marine ecosystem, our kids and their kids will not have the chance to witness and experience the truly astonishing and vibrant reefs that we are able to enjoy here today.

Hopefully, this article has provided you with pertinent information and advice to not only solidify your positive efforts in setting up an aquarium already but potentially get you excited and swayed into setting up and maintaining an aquarium in the very near future. Combining these attributes with the adverse environmental and preservational issues facing us on a much grander scale if our efforts are not carried out favorably and we can see just how important and beneficial the incorporating of an aquarium can be into our daily lifestyle as well.
