If you think you’re too old for some of today’s hottest trends, it isn’t true. Every trend that comes along may not work for you, but some of today’s most popular trends can be adapted for everyone at every age. Don’t think just because you’re over 30, trends can’t work for you.
Here are a few ways to incorporate some fashion favorites into your life without overwhelming your look.
Colorful Mascara and Eyeliner
Purple mascara may hearken back to our childhoods in the 80s, but it’s making a comeback today. You may be scared to try these colors especially if you’re not a teen anymore, but these mascaras can look great on everyone. Try a dark plum shade to make eyes look wider, and it’s universally flattering. Emerald green mascara looks amazing on brown or hazel eyes. Just don’t match your mascara to your outfits; wear the shade that is most flattering to your eye color instead.
Bright, metallic eyeliner may make you feel like you’re going out clubbing, but it can be an elegant look for anytime, too. Use a dark jeweled tone such as navy, green or violet to enhance your eyes. Don’t line your entire eye with colored liner; just use it along the top edge of your lid. You can also use it along with a more neutral colored liner just to add a little pop to your look without overemphasizing.
Colored or Floral Jeans
Those colored and floral jeans look great on celebrities, but can we get away with them? Absolutely. Simply make the jeans the item you build the rest of the outfit around. A simple, neutral, solid colored top will allow your jeans to take center stage, and don’t pile on too many accessories. Keep it simple and carry a solid colored bag for a wearable everyday look.
Bangs are a great way to update your look without making too drastic of a change. After all, it’s hair, it will grow back! For the most flattering look make sure they are eyebrow skimming. If bangs across your forehead scare you, try a sideswept bang that looks elegant and flattering on every face shape.
The days of matching your nail polish to your toenail polish are gone. Nowadays, it’s cool to use different shades on your top tips and your bottom ones too. For a neat look, try variations of the same shade, such as mint green polish on your fingernails and emerald green on your toes.
Shimmer and Shine
We all love glittery makeup and products but over a certain age it becomes harder to pull off. Instead of thinking glitter when you’re shopping for makeup, think shimmer instead. Shimmer still makes you feel beautiful but glitter can make you look like you’re trying too hard to look younger. A shimmery shadow with a hint of sparkle (think fine grains of glitter as opposed to bigger chunks) is more “grown up” and will be more flattering.
Try a shimmery highlighting cream on your face to give your skin a youthful glow!
