When it comes to trout fishing, there is no better season to fish for trout than the fall. Trout fishing during the fall offers amazing scenery, cooler temperatures, less crowded rivers and lakes, and some of the most productive trout fishing that can be found during any season. As a matter of fact, over the past two plus decades of fishing for these beautiful fish I have caught more trophy sized trout during the fall than I have at any other time of the year.
In this article I will draw upon those two decades of experience to list 3 trout fishing tips that will help you be more successful during your next fall trout fishing excursion. One or all of these simple tips should be added to your fishing arsenal sooner, rather than later. So, shall we get down to business?
- Present Your Bait Naturally – A great tip as far as trout fishing tips are concerned is to always present your bait to the trout in the most natural way possible. During the fall, trout are “stocking up” on food before the onslaught of winter, so live bait is an excellent trout bait choice. When you use live trout bait such as live worms, you want to present that bait in the most realistic and natural way that you can. A set of gang hooks is a great way to accomplish this task. The bottom line is to always present your bait naturally during the fall no matter what type of live trout bait you choose to employ.
- Have Fingerless Gloves Available – During the fall it can become quite chilly, especially when you are fishing in the mornings and/or evenings, which is where having a pair of comfortable fingerless gloves comes into play. You see, in temperatures from forty to sixty degrees (which is often the case during the fall) your hands can become quite cold, and nothing can ruin a fishing trip faster than cold hands! With a pair of fingerless gloves your hands stay warm in these temperatures ranges, while you have the use of your fingers for tying knots, feeling your line, and baiting up. On cool to cold fishing days, having a pair of fingerless gloves available to you is one of the best trout fishing tips you will ever receive.
- Fish At The Best Times – There is little doubt that being on the water when the trout are the most active means that you will be more successful. You always want to fish at the best times and the easiest way to determine the best times for fishing is to pay attention to the weather and/or moon phases. Fish at the best times, especially during the fall, and you will be well on your way to catching the largest trout that you ever have.
Of all of the trout fishing tips that I have learned over the past twenty plus years, the 3 tips that I just outlined are among the best. As I said earlier, add one or all of them to your trout fishing arsenal sooner, rather than later.
