Are you thinking about planning a Ukrainian themed dinner party in the near future? Do you already know what Ukrainian themed party favors you plan on using at the event? If not, you may want to take a quick peek at a few of my party favor suggestions. In my experience, each one is well suited for adults. Here they are:
If you plan on hosting your Ukrainian themed dinner party in the spring, you may want to consider favoring your guests with their very own pysanky. Pysanky are blown, glass or wooden eggs that have been embellished with Ukrainian folk art. You could opt to buy ready-made pysanky or make your own. Personally, I’d suggest that you consider making your own. That way, you can create a custom design and match the egg’s colors with your party’s overall color scheme.
When I was a teenager, I made a pysanka out of a real chicken egg. I poked a hole in each end of the egg and then removed its contents. Afterwards, I decorated the egg with nail polish and sprayed it several times with acrylic. The egg remained intact like that for years. Nowadays, there are companies that sell unfinished wooden eggs. They are just as easily decorated and perhaps more long lasting than blown eggs. You can typically purchase the unfinished eggs through wood working shops, craft stores and specialty retailers for a modest fee.
Boxes of Kolach
I have also found that individual boxes of kolach make wonderful party favors too. For the uninitiated, kolach is a traditional Ukrainian bread that is fashioned into a ring. Some folks modify the recipe and use it to create fruit filled pockets of pastry. Others stick to the bread ring version. As a party favor, either adaptation will suffice. There are recipes for both versions readily available online. Once you have the kolach made, I’d suggest packaging it inside a yellow and blue pastry box outfitted with a replica of the Ukrainian flag.
Ukraine Flag Ornament
Speaking of the Ukrainian flag, you may want to consider investing in a case of Ukraine Flag Glass Ornaments. You can usually purchase the ornaments through specialty stores like Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland. It is based in Michigan. The company tends to sell the ornaments for $9 each. Although the ornaments are a bit expensive as far as party favors go, they do make superior table decorations. As such, I’d suggest using the ornaments as both decorations and party favors. In order to use the ornaments as both, simply attach a ribbon to each one. Then affix the ornaments to your guests’ silverware bundles or drinking glasses. That’s all there is to it.
