by pop tug

The Coral Sea is an indie rock band based in California that has created some seriously original songs and formed a strong following on fans. Led by front-man Rey Villalobos, their music has been featured in several television shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Sleeper Cell.” As a result, the band has been gaining popularity amongst music fans. Their sound is completely unique, and their songs are memorable, catchy, and above all, highly enjoyable. Here is a look at five of the best songs by the Coral Sea yet, and see why fans are praising their music so highly.

“Look at Her Face”

“Look at Her Face” is a highly catchy, upbeat track by the Coral Sea. Upon first listen, I was immediately hooked. This song has a great vibe to it, with varying tempos, memorable lyrics, and a seriously unique sound. Due to its high quality and originality, this song was featured on an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC, effectively broadening the band’s audience in a big way.

“Honeybee”

“Honeybee” is another great song by the Coral Sea. Quite atmospheric and unique, this track is nothing short of stunning. This beautiful song features lovely acoustic instrumental accompaniment, lovely vocals from a truly unique voice, and lyrics that are quite simply poetic and telling.

“Under the West Way”

Another fantastic song by the Coral Sea is “Under the West Way.” This song has a different vibe from many of the other songs by the Coral Sea. A bit darker with a definite story to tell, this song still maintains the band’s distinct originality and quirky beauty that can be found in all of the Coral Sea’s work. “Under the West Way” is another wonderful accomplishment from a completely original indie band.

“Acres of Fire”

One of the Coral Sea’s most energetic tracks to date is “Acres of Fire.” This song first came across my radar in 2010 when it was featured on an indie rock playlist. I was pulled in by the song’s high energy, catchy lyrics and memorable hooks. Then there is the vocal quality; Villalobos unique voice set this song apart from the masses.

“Fell”

A simply beautiful track by the Coral Sea is “Fell.” Deeper and darker than most of the other songs by the Coral Sea, “Fell” immediately sucked me in and refused to let me go. There is a distinct sadness and bite behind the lyrics and melody of this song. The strange sad beauty that is captured in this song shows how diverse the Coral Sea’s talent truly is.
