The Ferry Plantation circa 1830 offers many volunteer opportunities, including a variety of summer camps for children. Year round events are scheduled such as the Scottish Tea and the Grace Sherwood celebration. Help with exciting successful archeology digs on site. The plantation stays open Halloween night and there are demonstrations and story-telling wearing 1800 period clothing. Vetshouse Inc.’s mission statement is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization that provides housing, food, clothing, and other assistance to homeless veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces in order to facilitate their return to gainful, independent, responsible and productive lifestyles. Our goal is to bring awareness to the Hampton Roads of the current plight of the 2500 homeless veterans in our community. We will provide this program to as many veterans as possible through the donation of time, materials, services and fundraising efforts of our volunteers and sponsors.
Vetshouse Inc. is a unique, nonprofit organization serving homeless veterans in Hampton Roads. Vetshouse Inc. is a 12 month program to helping homeless vets transition to responsible and productive lifestyles and is considered a hand up and not a hand out. The Vetshouse Inc. is governed by 15 volunteers who serve as the Board of Directors. An executive Director manages the day-today operations. Some ways to volunteer your time with the Vetshouse Inc. is to make a one-time donation, helping with fundraisers, provide employment opportunity, and provide nonperishable food items and clothing. Help with fundraising marketing events to help raise awareness to homeless vets in Hampton Roads. One event is the Stars and Stripe fundraiser a dinner with music, including a silent auction, key -note speakers such as the Governor of Virginia and recognized news media. Volunteer for the annual golf tournament or the spaghetti dinners. Since 1992 the Vetshouse Inc. has helped over 500 homeless veterans get back on their feet.
