Are you considering a volunteer opportunity? They are not all created equally nor do they meet all needs. It is important to research and consider each organization carefully. I have been fortunate to find several organizations that allowed me to volunteer knowing that I am serving the community by giving freely of my time and talents. The places where I volunteer have changed over the years as I, my family and my level of commitment changed. When I was a college student I was anxious to volunteer and learned as much as I gave, as a young mom I volunteered to keep my skills current, as my children grew I involved them allowing us to volunteer together, when our children left home I became involved in disaster operations where I would travel to other states. Each stage of my life has given me new opportunities for volunteering. I would like to share two local organizations which would allow a new volunteer at most any level to serve as an individual or a family.

The mission of the WCHS, Inc. is to provide compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, to measurably reduce companion animal overpopulation and to take a leadership role in educating and promoting humane values. Volunteer opportunities with WCHS offer working directly with the animals by walking them, helping them to socialize or direct care of the animals. Other opportunities available are clerical activities or helping at public events. If you love animals but don’t have the room or ability or care for a pet in your home at the present time you may be able to enjoy interaction with the animals at WCHS. Or if you are a pet owner and desire to support WCHS by helping in the office or at events to help promote the cause your assistance is greatly appreciated as well.
