For decades, doctors and other health professionals have been telling people to drink eight full glasses of water each day. It can be difficult to do, especially when trying to remember how many were consumed. These days, people are using plastic water bottles with popup and screw off lids more often than glasses, but the concept is still the same. People need to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day, and I use a number of different methods to remember to drink each and every one. Some need more, while others need less. In any case, talk to your doctor for a recommendation before changing your intake level. Your healthcare professional is your best source of hydration information and advice.
Use Rubber Bands and an Eight Ounce Glass or a Single Refillable Bottle
I am not a fan of plastic bottles that are tossed into the trash or recycling bin. Even if they are recycled, it takes valuable energy to complete the entire process from the curb to the plant. I prefer to use refillable washable plastic bottles or standard drinking glasses, and I use a rubber band method to remember to drink eight glasses of water each day. In the morning, I place eight wide rubber bands around my favorite drinking glass. Each time I finish a glass of water, I remove a rubber band. It is a great way to remember to drink the right amount. The rubber bands make sweating glasses easier to hold onto too.
Place Four 16.9-Ounce Bottles in One Section of the Fridge
If you prefer disposable containers of water, place four 16.9 ounce bottles in one section of the fridge, or mark them with the first letter of the day of the week. It will be easy to remember to drink four bottles each day since they will be clearly marked. Mark an entire case of 24 bottles and you will have enough for eight full days of hydration.
Buy a Marked Drinking Jug for Health and Daily Hydration
I used to have a huge plastic mug that was more like a jug because of the size. It was marked with health tips and measurements that equaled eight standard glasses of water. I filled the insulated jug with ice after adding the water. It was very easy to remember how much to drink. Once it was empty, I was hydrated for the day.
Fill Eight 8-Ounce Refillable Bottles Each Day
As the photo shows, you can fill eight 8-ounce washable bottles and keep them in the refrigerator door. They can be safely washed and reused again and again. Nothing will be thrown away, and you will remember to drink eight glasses of water each day, even if it is contained in plastic flip-top bottles instead of glass.
