I am very much in favor of holistic doctors. Unlike regular doctors, they get to the root of the problem and are not quick to put you on medication. Taking natural supplements is so much better than taking prescription drugs which have so many side effects. I have learned that eventually you have to know when to draw the line and stop going. Let me explain:
I have been to a holistic doctor for a couple of issues over the last few years. Usually these kinds of doctors have their patients do extensive blood work, which is not done by a normal doctor during a routine physical exam. This is good because they do get to the root of your problem.
The only issue I have with this is that you go to see the doctor for one issue, but then he/she finds other not so urgent things that the blood work shows. This happened to me recently. I went in for one serious issue but then the blood work showed that I had a deficiency in some other area, so she gave me a supplement for that.
My initial visit cost over $200. Then I had to go back in to discuss my blood work. Then I have a follow up visit in a few months to check the issue that I originally went in for. Now, with this deficiency that the blood work shows means that I will have to have another blood test done then go in again and discuss those results.
So, when does it end? It seems like these visits can be ongoing because she gives me supplements depending on how may ailments I have. Then you have to take a blood test again to see if things have improved, then you have to go in again and discuss the blood work. It just never ends and eventually you can go broke. Everyone knows that holistic doctors are not cheap and most do not take insurance. By the time you get reimbursed by your insurance that could take a while.
This is what I decided to do. I will definitely go back and see the doctor again to see if my original condition got better. Even though I took a supplement for my other deficiency, I will not go back and take another blood test for that. I will just wait until my annual physical to find out if I am still deficient in that area. If she puts me on more supplements for other conditions, again, I will not go back but will wait until I get my blood work done for my annual physical.
So, I will be making my last visit to check my original condition in a few months. You have to decide when to make the break otherwise your visits will just never end. You can always ask your homeopathic pharmacist about supplements for a condition first. They are very knowledgeable about these things almost as much as a doctor is.
