More accurately phrased the question should be why do some people hate President Obama? He was elected by a large margin of electoral votes so there are definitely many people who like him. Nevertheless, with that said, why all this drama over President Obama?
Upon his announcing his Presidential candidacy, the Secret Service started their protection six months before they normally start guarding presidential candidates. The early start was due to the candidate receiving death threats
What do they have against President Obama? Did he murder somebody, rape somebody, rob a bank, and commit an act of terrorism? What has he done to engender that kind of hostile scrutiny from them?
At many of the so-called town halls meeting, angry protestors carried caricatures of the president as Adolf Hitler as well as other offensive racial images of him to show what a horrible person they think he is! Nevertheless, what has President Obama done to make them view him as Hitler or as someone just as despicable person as Hitler?
The truth as shocking it may seem, is that some people in this country just did not want to see a black man elected to the highest office in the United States. To these people (including some in the Congress) President Obama can do no good. He could walk on water, bring the dead back to life, wipe out world hunger, bring peace to the world and they will find a way to find something wrong with what he did. We unrealistically expect results immediately and fast. People should know by now that there many things the president cannot do without the approval of Congress. This I fact was brought to my attention during my days as a Junior High School Student. Despite these facts, many must have missed similar classes during their school days.
Many Americans view him to be a socialist anti-American, always apologizing for the actions of the United States throughout history. It was during his speech on relations between the U.S. and the Islamic world, President Obama did get very close to regretting decades-old U.S. actions in Iran. However, no formal expression of regret was made after countering with criticism of Iran. Here are his exact remarks: “In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government. Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians. This history is well known. Rather than remain trapped in the past, I’ve made it clear to Iran’s leaders and people that my country is prepared to move forward.”
Obama also praised America, saying, “The United States has been one of the greatest sources of progress that the world has ever known. We were founded upon the ideal that all are created equal, and we have shed blood and struggled for centuries to give meaning to those words – within our borders, and around the world”.
The Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, and supporters are attempting to portray President Obama with code words, phrases, and religious innuendos. These “code words” and phrase are divisive in nature and intended to be divisive and inflammatory. Juan Williams echoes this sentiment in a column titled “Racial code words obscure real issues”. The Presidential aspirations of Newt Gingrich were assisted with the assertion that President Obama is the “food stamp president”. Mitt Romney says Obama wants to lead America into a “European social welfare society”.
Certain politicians and members of the media have embarked on a campaign to denigrate him, one being the image of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer shaking her finger at President Obama… The Governor was waving her finger at the President’s face like a Slave Master scolding a disobedient slave. Many began to celebrate that another “uppity Black man“ was being put in his place. Updated: February 27, 2012 – 12:00 AM
This is mean-spirited toward the democratically elected President. Instead, they have derided everything about him, from the day he was elected, even before he took office. It is shameful, and, despite our constitutional right of Freedom of Speech, completely negative, unproductive, and unpatriotic.
To suggest all opposition to Obama is racist is ridiculous. To suggest none of it is racist is also ridiculous. If anything, racism has made a comeback because of Obama, many old white Southerners feel emboldened, and immune to accusations of racism. I should also add — and this cannot be stressed enough — that this a cultural issue, and they do not feel their arguments are racist, they do not see it at all, so they do genuinely disagree with any characterization of anything they say as racist.
There is a much larger population who disagrees with policies, and then there are people whose personal circumstances are bad. An unemployed white Southerner is going to be angry with someone, and Obama is the most obvious target.
However, how do we separate legitimate criticism from hate? Well as the trash talking toward President Obama starts, “Okay, what should he do? What actions should he take to be a great President in your opinion?” If they have, a set of actions they think he should take (e.g. cut taxes, or whatever) then you have a legitimate disagreement. If the only answer is resignation or impeachment, then file it under hate.
All through the presidential campaign there were people protesting his candidacy, calling him a traitor, a socialist, a communist, a Muslim or an Arab, (which to their minds were all bad things) but none of this was true! Nevertheless, they still persisted in spewing their hatred toward him and were not amenable to reason or the truth.
When he became president the hatred and hostility did not stop, it intensified! You had the so-called birthers attempting with all of their might to De-legitimize his presidency saying that he could not be president because he was not born in the United States. No matter how much data was examined or presented to show he was born in the United States, (birth certificate, announcement of his birth in two papers at the time) was not good enough for these people. It was all faked! The truth could only be what they fervently and bitterly believed the truth to be! They would not and probably still will not accept anything less than what they believe to be true! Again, Why All This Drama Over Obama? Did Bill Clinton or George W. Bush have to prove they were born in the United States to be president? No, they did not.
All you have to do is type white supremacy into Google search or a search engine of your choice and read the contents of the various white supremacy sites. On the other hand, visit the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website, and those of you who do not want to believe that currently that the President’s race is the problem, will receive a rude awakening!
Of course, not everyone who does not like the president is a racist. Some may have legitimate political differences with him. They can disagree with him and have a civil discourse about it without spewing hate and hostility.
Some people do not know that their negative racial feelings are fueling their fear and hatred of President Obama and would be mortified to think that they harbored any such feelings. However, psychologically, when someone automatically experiences intense hatred, dread or other such emotions about someone unknown to him or her, it is usually a sign that they have underlying subconscious feeling they are not acknowledging.
It is like a phobia, where someone reacts to a fly as if it is a grizzly bear about to attack him or her! Their reaction is out of proportion to the danger they are actually in. A phobia is a conditioned response, a subconscious alarm system that says when you see situation or person a, trigger emotional reaction B!
People like this would not know why they have such intense anger or hostility toward President Obama, but may unconsciously project it on to something else about him that would keep them from being aware of the true reasons for their intense dislike of him.
The Republicans, Rush Limbaugh and others’ stated agenda was to stop President Obama from being successful. Not to try to make the country better, to help people or to try to create more jobs but to stop Obama! Are these people really Americans? Should they even call themselves Americans, if all they care about is stopping President Obama and damn the country? There is just something about a black man being president of a “white” country that just irks them.
If they were for some proposal and Obama decided to adopt it, they would do an about face and reject a proposal that they previously supported because Obama was now for it! They do not give a damn about the country only about stopping Obama and they proved this by being against anything President Obama is for.
So again, why do these protestors have such intense hostility and fear of President Obama that appears to be out of all proportion to anything he has actually done? Why All This Drama Over Obama?
So the questions remains what has President Obama done that was so bad that these people have all these irrational ideas, feelings, beliefs and hatred toward him? Why All This Drama Over Obama?
U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) said of Obama that he did not “even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get it, you’re stuck.” The shooting at the White House prompted the president of the University of Texas College Republicans to tweet: “Y’all as tempting as it may be don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had!” Her successor apparently was not chastened by the ensuing furor, tweeting, “My president’s black, he snorts a lot of crack”.
On the day Barack Obama was sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States of America, America’s dirty secret was brought Out of the Darkness into the Light.
