Why the Fiscal Cliff is a Symptom and Not the Real Problem!

by pop tug

The people of the United States of America need to start holding these career politicians accountable. I understand that, in order to get the best and the brightest to participate in governing, you must make it a desirable job. If you only let a person do it for one or two terms, you may miss out on some amazing minds, who might want to stay in another line of work instead of becoming a career politician. But we can’t continue down the path we are going, where everybody is forced to one side or the other. We are systematically eliminating all centrist politicians and the big problem with that is that on most issues that’s where the best answer is, somewhere in the middle. The politicians are forced to vote certain ways on subjects so as not to upset their big donors ie…Grover Norquist or the unions. In the interest of honesty, I am a Democrat but I seem to have an awful lot of very good friends who are Republican. So I’d like to think that I am somewhere in the middle.

I don’t claim to have all the answers but something has to change or nothing will ever get done again and the United States of America will become the next in a long line of world powers to disappear. I have a close friend who is an elected official and he has said on numerous occasions that he has been reminded that the way he votes could effect his backing or lack there of. Fortunately he is not in it to just continue to get elected, he has a conscience. So I guess everybody is now thinking I am just another democrat who is trying to say “stop the big money corporations and rich people from influencing elections” but I have just as much of a problem with unions and AARP types of groups influencing democrats.

I am not saying that the real problem with governing is the money that is involved in elections. That too is a symptom. More people are identifying as independent( 40 percent), I saw this in a gallop poll from January 2012. But this is where I think the problem is, most people are somewhere in the middle, and along with being somewhere in the middle, we are too often the silent majority. That’s why I am writing this article, to encourage more middle thinking people to get involved. Because that is what I think the problem is only the far left and far right speaking out. On too many occasions I find myself yelling at the tv, so I am hoping that I can get more regular, centrist thinking people too express their opinions and maybe get the politicians to pay a little attention to us.
